Full of masks in various stages of construction, from washed, uncut fabric in the foreground, to cut-out pieces matched with the best thread from my collection, to pieces with the folds and folded-tape ties…

Latest Vintage Save

I bought these four 1940s Colonial Ladies blocks at a flea market last summer. They were hand appliquéd, just lovely. I machine pieced the setting and hand quilted it. A cheery project for these difficult times.

Seeking Princess Sewing Machine info

Does anyone know anything about this machine?  I can find NOTHING about it on the internet so far.  It is selling on a local on-line auction.  I'm assuming it is a working toy machine circa 1950's, possibly?  When we looked at the listing  yesterday, the bidding was at $140.  I'm not interested in buying it, but I am intrigued by it and that fact that I can't seem to find any history or information about it.  It has a crank handle, but it also looks like there is a belt on it as well.  Maybe…

Progress in a confined space

As many of you know I’ve been living in a RV which of course means very confined space.   I have finally worked out a way to work on my quilts.  This is the the last of 3 blocks to make before I can piece the quilt top together.

How are you all managing this Virus.

I'm getting a bit tired of not visiting my neighbors, friends and family. So far only one case in my county. But the threat is always in my mind. I'm making face masks. The quilt I started is taking a back seat for now. Every time I go to the store (which is not a lot) I look like a lab tech. with my mask, rubber gloves and my coat on. I will be glad to shed all three. To keep me occupied when not sewing is watching comedians on the computer. I happened to get one of Foster Brooks the other…

Together We Can Face Mask for Care of Non-COVID19 Cases

The St. Charles Medical Center in Bend, Oregon, has asked volunteers to follow these directions for making masks for them. They are using them in the hospital for healthcare workers caring for non-COVID19 patients, so they can save their surgical masks for those on the front lines. We can drop them off at one of the local Albertson's stores during…

Olson style face mask

Here's one I just made today. After I took this picture, I made a filter using some interfacing I had on hand. Slipped it behind that white panel in the first view of the mask. I think it will work well enough. I heard the vacuum cleaner bags had to be HEPA bags to work the best. I don't have any. If I hadn't found the interfacing I was going to try a coffee filter.…

Not suppose to happen to me

Hello everyone.  Yes we’ve all had a rough month with this virus, I hope everyone is well.  I’ve been working (yes I work at a grocery store), until today anyway.  I’ve been having problems with my left wrist over the last few days. This morning when I went to work it just seemed like it was getting worse so I went home. It took a while but I finally got in to see a doctor.  Turns out I have tendinitis. A wrist brace and meds and a week off work I am finally home but what to do for a week?…

Update

Good morning-

Good news...My nephew is doing a lot better. Had a few tough days, this definitely is a tough disease to kill once it gets into your lungs. We were able to get him on the Chloroquine and Z pack along with a nasty antibiotic.

After doing some research on face masks...if, you are making them, keep in mind that vacuum cleaner bags are a great filter. I am making mine with a pocket to slip in a new filter everyday. One bag can make many 5x6 filters.
