new update on my grandsons' dad

I just wanted to quickly mention that my grandsons' dad who was in the horrible motorcycle accident on June 16th is slowly but surely improving!  On Monday the drs did a tracheotomy to get the breathing tube out of his throat.  Plus they took a little bit more of his leg.  They have been giving him blood thinners because he had developed a blood clot in one of his lungs, but that is almost dissolved now.  He was awake enough yesterday to almost shake our friend Tony's hand.  Tony said it… Continue

Moldy quilt

Does anyone know how to clean a quilt that has mold on it?  My daughter's storage building flooded and a box with two quilts I made her got wet--the Dallas heat produced some mold on them while she and her new husband were in Hawaii!

I would appreciate any advice.

Heart of Roses quilt

I'm just going to throw this out there in case anyone has been cleaning quilting closets and happens to have this in their stash.

I'm looking for the premarked background pack for C. Jean Horst's Heart of Roses quilt.  I have the pattern book, but the premarked background fabric is no longer available.  Because I'm basically lazy, my least favorite part of hand quilting is the marking.  :)

I've e-mailed Jean and the…

New books recieved!

I just received 2 new books I ordered:

"Threadpainting Made Easy",  by Terry White

"Couture Sewing Techniques, revised and updated",  by Claire Shaeffer

I've only had a chance to quickly flip through them today, but plan to start reading them over the next few days.  I think both will be a big help to me based on what I'm seeing so far.  I'll let you know more of what I think about each of them as I read them...more on these books very soon.

This has been a long stressful week

I haven't had any jobs for a couple of months then all of a sudden I got several.  I got two quilts to quilt and a couple of embroidery jobs.  First the week started off with having to take my daughter to the hospital.  She checked herself in which was a good thing because mentally she was really bad.  Her meds were off and it really took it toll.  Now they have changed them and she seems to be doing better.  I get the first quilt on the frame and the batting is too narrow and I have to call…

Once you have your account, type Inland Northwest Virtual Quilts of Valor into the search box. How do you remove pin-rust stains?

Any and all ideas about how to remove rust stains from pins left in fabric for too long would be appreciated.

first leafy corner

I love the way this is starting to look!  I only have the first two branches of the vine done.  This is the top right corner.  A flower goes over the spot where the three branches come together.…

Simplicity Rotary Cutting Machine

Here's the deal.. I've been eyeballing this machine for some months. Yes I've read the reviews and even though the bad out weigh the good, I broke down and purchased it. Yup I made sure I could return it if I wasn't satisfied with it. Last nite, I again read the reviews, tips, tricks and watched a couple of videos. Seems like it will take a little getting use to but with all new gadgets and gizmo's isn't that always the case? I haven't had time to sit and even take it out of the box but that…

Thought I would share a few pictures today of my New Studio. I still need to have a couple of curtain rods put up so that I can display a quilt or two and have a design wall as well.
But here is what it looks like right now.

Well I didn't exactly go dumpster diving LOL, the quilt rack was just at the curb, but no, this is not my first curbside find either LOL. People toss out the strangest things. When we first moved to our house many many years ago, (new mortgage and all that) a neighbour threw out 2 GORGEOUS  wicker patio chairs....I resprayed the metal legs with matte black paint and a coat of white paint to the wicker....they were our patio chairs for several years... my daughter's desk....(we primed and… Continue

Sounds like a lot of us are on a roll today

I've been reading the blogs off and on today and it seems like everyone is getting things done.  Not to be left out, I was up early and decided that today was the day to finish piecing my blocks together.  I only needed four more to finish the top of the quilt and will cut and add just a simple border for this quilt.

I haven't come up with a…

Really on a roll... (no pun intended! ;-)

Hello everybody,

it seems that I am really on a roll right now with ideas... This bag is to show my support for the ladies' 2011 Football (Soccer) World Championships. Germany actually hosts this event this time and of course we hope that our team will win the championships for the third time in a row. This would teach the male players a lesson... ;-)
