Sewing Machine

Is anyone else wondering what Cinderella Pisani bought for her new sewing machine on Friday?  Maybe she is still looking.  Or maybe she is in her sewing room sewing up a storm.  Cinderella what did you get. "enquiry minds want to know".

Advice on stabilizer needed

I'm going to be taking an embroidery class designed for crazy quilting. I know, I know, when do I think I'll have time for another time consuming project? Later, of course.

To the question--I'm supposed to bring a rectangle of velveteen backed with "iron on stiffener". The teacher didn't specify one. What would you suggest? I'm going to have to be able to stitch through it by hand but still, it has to do its job.

High Fiber—Cutting Up

Two months into my Mary Tudor cardigan I thought I had the sleeves done, when I discovered a major oopsie while taking this photo:

Do you see it? (Sleeve cap on the left sleeve, to your right in the photo.)

The chart symbols for two of the colors are two different sizes of circles, not very obvious…

We've found a space

It appears our worries are over and our group can stay together at least for the time being.  One of our ladies works as a part-time instructor at the local satellite branch of our nearest university, and they have a room we can use as long as she’s available to open up for us and lock up when we’re done. (she works as an ER nurse too, so isn’t always available).  So our quilting group can continue meeting for our monthly Saturday ‘wilts’ for the foreseeable future as long as we plan them…

Modern Pennsylvania Dutch

I spent a good part of this afternoon getting some pictures taken of some of the projects I have finished this year.

This is a picture of one of my favorites.  I call it "Modern Pennsylvania Dutch" because of the color palette I chose.

It is from a pattern called "Painted Hearts" designed…

My morning view

I live on a canal to a private non sports lake.  This is what I saw when I let the dog in this morning.  He/she was in my yard, but decided to move next door.  We see a lot of wild life, and horses across the…

I'm in big trouble...

It's been awhile since I've gotten into a jam.  I'm thinking...must be, I've out grown my craziness!!!! That's what I get for thinking....It's been raining for the past forever and I've been deep cleaning and throwing out stuff at the lake house. This is on a little lake in CNY. Everyone that comes to visit thinks I need a lighthouse! This is not the ocean!!! Bring wine!!! So, there is a box for goodwill with some real treasures in it! Along with cleaning, I've been doing minor repairs. How…

Decision time

I have decided to bite the bullet. I am going sewing machine shopping this Friday. I have my budget figured out and the amount I will be able to spend. I have my list of features I want. I will  have my husband at my side so he can hold me back if I decide to go crazy. He manages to keep my feet firmly planted in reality. I am so excited I feel like a kid at Christmas. I will keep all of you posted on my progress!

New Free Pattern - Vintage Book Bag!

When I started here, almost three years ago, I recolored the Vintage Book Bag, an archived pattern, into our library-themed collection called Bookish. I was fortunate to obtain the catalog sample and have been carrying it around ever since! The reason I enjoy the bag so much is its 9" x 12" x 2" size which is just right for bringing home books from the…

Question

Has anyone ever longarm quilted a knit quilt top?  I have someone inquiring about that. It is a brick pattern. I have never worked with knit, as far as quilting, and not sure how that will work.  I am wondering if I could get it tight enough on the rollers without stretching it.  Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Also, I am going to be quilting a quilt top for someone who wants a high loft.  Has anyone ever longarm quilted with a 1" loft.  I know the hopping foot height isn't more…

High Fiber—End of Winter? Beginning of Summer?

Just a few days before the first day of summer, we got a huge snowstorm.

This is the snow coming off the roof. Where we live, it's common to get snow in June, but it doesn't usually accumulate.

The storm hit on Tuesday, catching us by surprise (rain was predicted) as we were inside the hospital…

That wall hanging

Back about 2005, I was looking on the internet for quilt patterns for various breeds of dogs.  I had this idea that I could make a quilt for my daughter that would include an applique of a Basenji, a breed that she was particularly fond of.  In my search, one of the sites I came across recommended http://www.silverliningsoriginals.com/  for dog patterns.  Well, the site definitely had dog patterns, (just about all breeds recognized by the…

A completed quilt

I have completed one of the thirty quilt tops on hand.  I have more than that but only thirty are not designated for someone.  I have two more waiting to be hemmed.  That will give me a total of ten completed quilts for this year.  I only hand quilt so that is quiet an…

Sewing machine itch

Has anyone else been hit with this strange affliction? It hit me suddenly or maybe not so sudden. Perhaps it has been a thought in the back of my brain for awhile, growing. It would whisper in my ear occasionally when I was looking at a project and knew that it would be a joy with a beautiful new machine. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? My dream machine would do everything. Quilting, embroidery, regular sewing and have every fancy stitch known to womankind. Of course it would have…

Long Arm

Hi Everyone, I need your help my DH wants to buy me a long arm with a sewing machine for our Anniversary off of Craig's list. It is a never been used Next Generation Quilting frame by Grace, it's not computerized and the sewing machine is a Husqvarna Mega Quilter. Have any of you had any experience with either of these items and if you have what are your thoughts? It is a VERY thoughtful gift but I would also have to figure out where I would put it. Any feed back would be welcomed. Thanks…

Feeling Better

Hello Ladies,  Just checking in to let you know I'm doing better.  Doing a bit more each day but get tired very easily.  After all this lying around it will take some time to get my stamina back.  I'm trying hard to be patient but at the same time biting at the bit to get back to feeling "normal" again.

I am taking small orders on the sewing.  Hemming pants etc.  I made a couple of valances last week.  Took me all week but I got them done.  I just can't sit for any length of…
