Closure eludes me

It was hard enough learning of my dad's passing and then learning that my brother and I were the last to know. I was told by my cousin, calling from my sister's home where my dad had passed, that there would NOT be a funeral, memorial or celebration of his life as he did not want that and wanted to be cremated. We could live with that. Then I learned from a cousin in Michigan on Thursday that there was going to be a celebration of my dad's life at my sister's on Saturday (yesterday). I…

Time to brag

My youngest DGD, age 7,,, just competed in her first state meet in gymnastics.  She took first place in 3 out of the 4 events, and  2nd in the 4th event.  Also took first place all around, and is now New York State Champion for level 3 age 7.   She is something else.  Her sister competed in her soccer tournament this weekend,,, and did just as good.   So proud of these girls!!

Scraps, scraps and more scraps! What are we going to do with them? So many small pieces but no idea what to do with them but we don't want to throw them out cuz they may actually be used? If you have this problem, and I know we all do, I have the solution! Grab your bins that are overflowing with those abundant squares that you have saved. You will need the following colors; various shades of…

Thanks to all the survivors and families of Normandy...

It's an ironic day...we are honoring our family members who served in WWII (hubby's father) against Germany. What a difference 70 yrs. makes...we are waiting for a conference call from a company in Germany that wants to fund a major research project in hubby's lab. Wouldn't it be wonderful, if the world could just work together for the general good...

We are traveling to Charlotte, NC for a conference. Yesterday, after 9 hours of several near miss accidents, we decided to get off of…

Good Morning Ladies

Just checking in to let you know that each day, I'm feeling better. Getting more "mobile" and doing some house work. Dusting and keeping things picked up.  On Sunday Bud was taken to the hospital with a mini stroke.  He was in the hospital for 3 days.  He's not the best patient. Complained about the hospital bed and anything else he could find to complain about.  But he is doing good with no permanent damage.

My church family have been super, bringing in food and doing my floors and…

I must be attractive to the bugs!

Yuck, I got stung by a hornet today while helping DH repair the shed.  It's so reminiscent of that incident from 2 years ago where I was stung by a bunch of wasps.  I must have used up 2 cans of that wasp and hornet killer spray to drive them away from the shed.  Thankfully, I didn't get any allergic reaction this time.  I guess that's the downside of warm weather, all the bugs come out and attack mercilessly.  I dare not go deeper into the shed to look for that screened gazebo we have,…

High Fiber—Spring at Last

Last week found me quilting again.

All the cutting is done and I've finished 11 of the 24 pieced blocks for BS2's baby quilt. It will have one appliqué block depicting a little horse, to represent the baby' shorthand year, "Year of the Horse." The blocks are from the quilt "Twin Stars" from…

What to charge?

What should I charge to machine quilt a hand embroidered baby quilt.  Just simple meander or straight line quilting?

The loss of the small independent quilt shops.

Our small town here in northern British Columbia has had a grand little quilt shop for about sixteen years.  The owner has made a group of us very welcome at drop-in sessions  Tuesday afternoons and evenings, Thursday afternoons and Saturdays.  Once a month she has a ‘Quilt ‘til you wilt’ that lasts from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.  A group of about sixteen of us are regulars for these get togethers.

A couple of years ago one of the ladies suggested that we all make a 12 ½ inch…

Feeling Better

Hello my friends.  I'm feeling a little better but still have a ways to go before I can do much.  I'm able to walk a bit without my leg feeling like it's going to burst.  Yesterday (while Bud was out as he is being over protective) I sat at my sewing machine and sewed for about 5 minutes.  That was all I could do. But it made me feel good to think a few stitches at a time will end up in a finished project.  I had pinned together charm squares for another zig zag table runner before I took…
