Did You See That?

Mancave and I are off on a quick overnight trip and I am writing to you from the Starbucks located across the street from our Hilton Hotel. He has a meeting for the next couple of hours and so, here I am trying to decide on if I should work on my Roseville Vet Clinic quilt binding or write the next part of chapter 8...decisions...decisions.

It's quite comical how I found this Starbucks. I chalk it up to my natural "homing" Starbucks device. I believe that it's in my genes to find… Continue

Hot weather project

Hot weather project!! Stayed where the AC was for 2 days and made this baby quilt out of 5" squares that I had in a bundle and added this 'funky' material. Was fun and really enjoyed doing it.

Finally...a dining room table you can actually dine at...

Well, yesterday was a cleaning day and I now have a dining room table you can finally dine at...and to think I always thought it was a cutting table!  HUH!

and...that is my all time favorite 10 minute runner on there too...…

Playing Footsie

Thank you all for the well wishes!  I'm still just kinda sitting around -- but at least I have the two cats and the silly dog to keep me company.  We're all hanging out in the lower level of the house, stayin' cool and stayin' outta trouble.

I'm not seeing much improvement at this point, but I am still at the start of the physical therapy.  I'll probably need a flow chart to adequately explain this, but my younger daughter's best friend's mom is going to be doing most of the…

The Fusible Batting Fiasco

It started out like the best idea I had come up with in a long time. I had three quilts to get basted and bound and I was in a hurry. So, remember the great June Tailor coupon deal I told you about the other day where I got a great 4 inch square quilting tool "free"? Ok, that's where my story begins...

As you all know, I have a busy month ahead of me and being the quilting overachiever, I have made a work schedule for myself to make sure I get everything done on time. I have the shop… Continue

Return from Sister's, Oregon quilt show

We have arrived home from our holiday, which included a visit to the 36th annual quilt show in Sister's, Oregon.  The show was fantastic; if you have never gone to it, you need to do so.  My girlfriend and I arrived at 8:30 am and left at 5:30 pm.  We did not get to see all the 1300 quilts on display around town everywhere.  Most businesses had one or two inside and they hung on every building in every spot possible.  Some of the buildings are two storeys high and the quilts were hung way up…

New shopping site - Now I AM in trouble!

Quick post before running off to see grandson's (age 5) first soccer game.

A new shopping site - one at a time 'deals' - when the product is gone, it is gone, and a new 'deal' comes up.  Called, appropriately,  "Flock Shop".

I am in sooo much trouble!  Made my first purchase.  They conveniently email you with each new item!  Aaargh!!!    www.karenstenback.wordpress.com for the website…

Fabric Design and Drinking your way to COOL

Over my quilting years, I have purchased a lot of fabric and a lot of quilt patterns.  And, I have fantasized about designing my own quilt patterns, and now actually have a couple almost completed.

I have also fantasized about designing my own quilt fabric.   Now there is a site where I can do that - for what seems to be a pretty reasonable price, I can design my own fabric, purchase it, and have it available for others to buy, also.   I went on the site and tried a little…

I've been moved,

for the most part any way.  Over the last couple of days I have been moving material and such from the one room to the larger room.  All that I have left to move is the longarm.  Still holding out for him to come home and move the darn thing while I am at work.  After all he moved it into the room, only fair he should move it back, and all the material stashed in said closet. I've posted the pictures on my page of both ends of the room.  Sense all this moving started and he has been home…

Latest news from flood zone.....

Looks like my dd has no home to go back to.  Her trailer was in water half way up the trailer for 3 weeks. Mold has set in and the floors are all buckled. The deck is gone...oh found it in the next yard with her tomato plants still on it and blooming. ..... doesn't look good.  She will move what she wants to take to NH with us until they can find a place to live.

Have not posted here for a while.  Am still working on Whackzilla - she is getting so cute - just love her.  Have had to do some seam ripping - but have enjoyed seeing what she will look like.  Am still deciding on her dress.

July 21 - She is still not finished - life has been rather full recently.  Busy with work and life!!  But, am planning to work on her this evening.  Just want to finish so I can get on to other projects.  Picked up some beads to make an eyeglass chain…

Inspired by a dress...

So today I finally found a beautiful dress for my son's upcoming wedding.  It is a really nice dress, fits like a glove except for the length (which will be altered of course!).  Now for a plus sizer to find a dress that fits perfectly is amazing and so I am even more pleased!
That's the good news...but there is more...
I saw a dress today that had many folds in it and, while it wasn't for me (I…

Hot, Yet Busy in Indy!

Alrighty, so much for staying in the house till Friday. Truth be told, I have probably been more out than in! Yesterday, I went over to Panera and wrote chapter eight of the novel, so if you haven't read it yet-it's now up. I ran through it quickly and tried to catch the errors that I had, but you know what they say-a writer can't edit their own work. Yep, I do believe that's true!

So, after that, I had to pick up some things at the grocery store and then I came… Continue

State guild update and a warning

I had a wonderful time at our state quilt guild conference last weekend. Sharon Schamber (she's won in Paducah and Houston several times) has amazing quilts. I took a machine applique class from her. She was fascinating and fun. My best friend also took a second class from her and said it was even better.

The warning--hot iron + human arm = very painful burns. Don't try to balance a hot iron on a stack of stuff and carry it. OUCH!

Now I'm back, The garden weeds are out of…

History repeats itself

When my DD was growing up, a new McDonald's opened up in our town. DD pretty much learned her alphabet by recognizing the sign, and she would ask for 'hamgerbur' every time we drove by. She would almost always have one because it was affordable then. And we used to go to K-Mart and all the other stores along the way.

Every afternoon I pick up DGD from day care and we go by that same McDonald's, and she never said anything until yesterday. "Lola, I want to go to McDonald's", she said…

Hello from Maine

Just stopping by to say hello.  I trust your all having a great Summer, (in spite of the heat) in some areas.  We are suppose to get in the high 80's tomorrow.  Alright now, I can hear some of you who are experiencing triple didget temps. saying "poor you" in a very cynical tone. Actually I had to turn my ceiling fan off as I was getting chilly a few minutes ago. We are expecing a severe thunder storm this after noon.

My son is in the process of buying my house. I'm hoping it will go…

Off topic

I had to brag a little, hope you ladies don't mind. Alexa (my daughter) is trying out for Cenla Idol on July 30th. IF and that's a big IF (we're not getting our hopes up just yet) she wins Cenla Idol she will then go on to American Idol. This has been something she has talked about since American Idol became so famous. She said she's got to try or she'll never know and she needs to try before she signs on the dotted line to join the marines. So if you ladies could keep her in your thoughts…

Snippets project directions

I never thought about taking those itsy bitsy pieces of fabric and making an arrangement of some kind until this workshop came about from our guild.

Firstly, there is no adhesive to the fabric. It's just sliced up into little bitty pieces for use on the picture.

Secondly, a simple pencil drawing colored with pencils reduces the complexity of an authentic picture. Basically a sketch of the original.

Third and last, using a thin batting, you just sprinkle your 'snippets'…
