Summer's Winding Down

I haven't posted since spring. I don't know what happened to the time. The heat has been unbearable here. Everyday is over 100 and it doesn't look like there's any relief in sight. I have the house full of kids so it slows down quilting quite a bit but school starts on the 13th. I do have 2 quilt tops for Christmas done and one ready to put the blocks together. I've been…

Monthly Series

The following are some monthly series I have made, taught and put into kits.

The first one is my "Snap Calendar" series and the 2nd is a picture of how the blocks

are attached to the mounting board along with the covered file folders.

A basket was made that had a coordinating attachment for each month.

  There were also…

The Wedding is Over! They Loved the Quilt!

Here is my son, Cory and his bride, Amanda!  They were married at Lake Tahoe (Amanda's home area) on Sat. July 28.  This is a picture of them after the ceremony in the car that took them to the reception.  Cory is barefooted because after they were announced man and wife, he kicked off his…

Post cards or bookmarks?

It's a topic a bit off the quilting track. but not far. If someone offered you a choice between a bookmark with a picture of the book cover on the front and a small ruler and quilt sizes on the back--or--a postcard with the same picture of the book cover and a normal postcard back--which would you prefer? Or neither?

It's time to start getting my promotion stuff together for book four and I hate doing it! I detest being a salesperson so having to think about this makes me cranky.

It was well worth all the month's of preparation. The entire day was full of special moments and memories that will be cherished forever! Doing everything ourselves made it all the more special. From the napkins to the decorating, to the flowers. All things came together perfectly. She was such a beautiful bride & he was a very handsome groom. We have a very special SIL now that adores our daughter. They love the quilt I made. It was a pattern in the April issue of "QUILT" magazine. I…

High Fiber—2012 Ravellenic Games Inspire Mitts Production

We barely got the clothes washed from our trip when it was time for the Ravelympics Ravellenic Games.

(The U.S. Olympic Committee complained about the name, so Ravelry had to change it.)

I'm "competing" for Team Mitts of Steal. For those of you who don't know about this charitable organization, we make fingerless…

Busy and Productive Weekend

I must say I was feeling very overwhelmed with all the outstanding quilt projects that I needed to get a handle on, so I took this weekend to get my act together.  I finished 2 BOMs blocks now I'm ready for August.  Got my nieces and nephews toppers pieced and ready to go to the LA tomorrow, block picked out, fabric washed, ironed and ready for me to get to cutting for one of my swaps due here by September 1.  It of course was all that easier to achieve with our heat here in FL reaching…

Canceled Quilting Class

I have decided not to take the quilting class I had signed up for. Recently have been hand piecing a sampler - have had the pattern for a long time and finally started it.  Find I enjoy hand piecing so much more - my sewing machine is even put away.  I realize that one reason it is not done more is because of the time element.  However, I am retired so have so much more time.

Here is a sample of the blocks I have done so far:…

Grand mother's flower garden

I fell in love with the gfg ever since I saw a link in the BOM I am doing with Craftsy. Heaxagons and EPP were one month's block. The 'to do or not to do" dilemma lasted for a month or two. Too many people were talking about how they have been doing it for two/three years. And of course a big problem for me was the access to fabric. I looked through my wardrobe to see which ones I could turn into scraps. And dithered. Finally I got my hands on some floral fabrics thanks to a warm-hearted…

As I was sewing this morning, DGD found a piece of fabric with a heart in it.  So she asked me to cut the heart out, then she found a piece of tulle of same color.  She then asked me if I could sew the heart for her.  I asked who it was for...she said, it's for Mama and my family, and everyone in this whole wide world.

So here is my dear granddaughter showing her 'heart'...…

Neat thing my dgs William just said

My grandson is standing next to me & has been looking at the avatars on the groups I belong to.  He saw the one on the Block Buddies group and pointed at one and said "Grandma, isn't that the Monkey Wrench?  Come to find out, he learned about the Underground Railroad in school this past year and his teacher taught them about the quilts that were used.  I thought it was so neat that I just had to share with you all.

Super busy since last posting

Hi all;

I've been super busy since last posting, attending the Vermont Quilt Festival at the end of June and finishing up projects before I left for the festival.

Those projects were two feathered stars in fall colors. I believe that I posted one on line earlier. Then I had to prepare fabrics for classes at VQF.

I took two classes with Mary K. Ryan (mariner's compass and no template feathered star). Both classes brought me back to the 'basics' of measurement.
