Happy New Years to everyone! I am pretty new to quilting. I just started this past summer. I am also a knitter. If I'm not sewing I'm knitting. My husband and I live in central Maine on a beautiful piece of land close to the water. We both love the outdoors and doing crafty things. I do wish I had more time for quilting and knitting but with a full time job I only have evenings and weekends. I like several of you out there have a stash. I can't believe how mine a grown in such a short time. I… Continue

Hello Everyone,

I just found this site this morning. I live in Michigan with my DH, three cats and three horses. I love all kinds of needlework, especially quilting. I have finally organized my office/sewing room so I can sew when I want instead of having to dig everything out. I hope to put a dent in my closet full of UFO's
I am really glad to have found this site.

Happy New Year from Okinawa

Just a little over 2 hours till it is 2009 here. We have been on Okinawa for just a month now and I love it. I'll be happier when all my sewing stuff gets here from the US but I have several quilting projects to keep me busy hand piecing. My DH is in the Army and will be stationed here for 3 years. This is the first time in many years that I have not worked outside the house so I'm looking forward to a lot of quilting time. I've found several fabric shops so far on the island and will be… Continue

Hi Everyone

I am Margaret from beautiful East TN very near to the Smoky Mountains. I love to sew and since I retired I am learning to quilt. I want to make some art quilts this year. So many ideas so little time! I just moved to a small apartment with way too much sewing stuff so another goal for 2009 is to get the stash whittled down....maybe I can whittle down a bit of myself too (too much good holiday food). My shih tzu Kaylee and I walk everyday. The weather forecast is for more rain. I think I will… Continue

Hi All,
I am very glad I found this site. I am a new to blogging so on this front I have a lot to learn. I am a long time needlework (embroidery, needlepointer, knitter, crocheter etc.) but a fairly new quilter. I have been quilting for about 4 years. So far my favorite types are english paper piecing and applique. I also like to hand quilt. Glad to meet everyone and wishing all a very happy New Year.

Just Signed up!

Happy New Year to All,
I excited to see this site! I can't wait for inspiration from all the avid quilters out there. I tend to hoard material for up coming projects and then never seem to get around to making the project. But believe me, that doesn't stop the hoarding of more material!! I don't think I've ever found a piece of material that I didn't need for my stash. But I'm hearing that hoarding material seems to be a universal "quilters" problem. Have a safe and happy new year. gmw

No Winter Blues, Just Sewing

Hi Everyone.

My daughter got me into quilting last year and now I sew everyday. After many years of working, I am home with time for hobbies and spent several years making doll clothes for the granddaughters. I taught my daughter how to piece a quilt, learn to use the machine and sew when she was 14 yrs old and now she is teaching me.

Quilting has become an obsession in the cold weather. Things have changed with the machines, cutting tools, and fabrics I am having SEW much fun.… Continue

Happy New Year Across the World

Happy New Year from Melbourne Australia. As I write it is 10.20pm on New Year's Eve.

My husband and I have just been for a walk down to the balcony of our local shopping centre to watch the early (kids) fireworks from the Yarra River over the city of Melbourne. As we walked down it was just on sunset on a beautiful clear summer's evening, The sky was clear with a sickle moon hanging down below a setting Venus - a magic evening. The sun setting behind the city made for a soft golden… Continue

Just Joined!

Hi Everyone,

I love to quilt! Although, I must admit, I have not made a quilt in a long time. I'm just trying to get back into the groove of things which is why I'm now here.

I spent the last few years in graduate school, drooling over other people's quilts and going to quilting shows, buying fabric and quilting notions on sale. Well, schools over and quilting time has finally come...Whoo-Hoo!! Now, I have a break so can sit back roll up my sleeves, pull out my machine and… Continue

I am married to a wonderful man, have two daughters, one son and three grand-children. I have been quilting a couple of years and must admit I am addicted! I do my sewing on "vintage" and "antique" Singer sewing machines. My favorites are my 401 for quilting and featherweights for peicing. I Love Connecting Threads Fabrics and Essential Thread and really appreciate the prices! What a great on-line Community this will be! Thank-you!

New to the group

Hi, everyone! I am so excited to get started with this group! I retired in August from 40 years of police dispatching. I was really worried as to what I would do with my extra time.....I don't have any! I have been cleaning the cobwebs from the corners, reorganizing, and actually getting some projects done. My husband is the kindest, most understanding man in the world. He is still working in emergency services and may decide to retire next year.

I have 3 Yorkies (the boys) named… Continue

Freezing cold in Alaska!!

Hi Everyone!! I'm so happy to learn that this forum exists! Although I've been quilting since 1991, I feel like a beginner in SO many ways. I'm self-taught...like completely. While recovering from heart surgery in 1991 I decided to take up a hobby. My grandmother quilted (by hand) but I wanted more immediate results so I bought my first sewing machine. The lady at the store asked me if I'd need more bobbins because it only came with 3. I kinda looked at her and said, "When I figure out what a… Continue

I Am New Here Also

Hello to all,

I am new here too. I have been quilting for quite a few years. I got into it totally by accident. My best friend had been trying to get me interested in quilting for a long time, but I was resistant. We were chatting one day about quilting and I was telling to her about a sewing machine that my Mother-In -Law had given me. Much to her delight she told me it was a Featherweight. I had no idea what she was talking about, much less why she was so excited about it. So I… Continue

Greetings from South Florida!

Hi there! This is my first time on a blog! My name is Lisa and I have been quilting since 2002 and I am totally addicted! I am also a full time math teacher and part time graduate school student, so for the time being I am down to quilting about once a week with my other quilting buddies--the Midnight Quilters. There are 6 of us in total, 5 in Coral Springs, FL and one who moved to Missouri, but we keep in touch and have a retreat with all of us once a year. I have many (about 5 or 6) projects… Continue

Hi everyone!

Hello, my name is Kim and I live in beautiful British Columbia, Canada (home of the 2010 winter Oympics!). I LOVE Connecting Threads and all their beautiful fabric. I am new to quilting - only been quilting for about 18 months, but I am HOOKED. Believe it or not, I have never sewed a day in my life before I started quilting! I am self-taught and sew every single day!! I have probably made at least 20 quilts and always have 2 or 3 on the go! I work from my home, so I can sew any time I like… Continue

Hi I'm new at this but thought it would be fun.

I have been quilting for about 35 years and love to learn new things.

I have really picked up the pace with quilting the past 7 years. I use quilting as my therapy since my youngest son passed away from a brain tumor 7 years ago.

I bought an embroidery machine in the past year and a half and I am having so much fun with it.

I wish I could retire from my job as a physical therapist but then I would not be able to afford my… Continue

First time blogger

Hello to all the fellow quilters! I just joined and hoping to have some fun and maybe learn something along the way. I've only been quilting about 6 years, so I know I've got a lot to learn. I took a class over the summer by Paula Reid on machine trapunto, so it seems like I've been doing a lot of that lately. If anyone ever gets a chance to take her class or even view her Stuff and Fluff video, I highly recommend it! Her work is fantastic and she does everything on a regular sized sewing… Continue

What a great way to start the new year.

I also am a first time blogger. Looks like we have a lot of quilters out there. We all seem to have a special bond.
I have been quilting for almost 20 years. I have a lot of projects lined up for the coming year. It will be fun getting new ideas and hints on this blog. Looking forward to hearing from all you fellow quilters.
