Been spending the day packing what I think can not be replaced. The fire is headed our way. I have been using my stash to wrap around my family antiques. The forest fire is headed our way and there is no stopping her. One thing I want all of you to remember, please take pictures of everything in your home. Open drawers and doors to show what you have. We have an awesome insurance company and they said as you leave your home make sure you have a picture of everything you have left behind.…Continue
Here I am now that Issacc has moved on out and left the area. We had a hurricane on top of all the other things that have been going on here. I think I would have liked to go on a vacation and come back to find everything done and over with. We had minimal damage although we did have to go without electricity for awhile, it is back on now. My brother on the next street over is still without power but he does have a generator ( Thank you Lord).
We have been in the repair/remodel…Continue
I just finished the binding...my least favorite part of quilting. This is "Frame It UP"( a downloable pattern from CT...) and I added a few wool and moda marble appliques to the corners. I'm learning how to blanket stitch and applique, which is something I have been able to avoid for the past 20 yrs. Now I'm lovin all the wonderful wool things and need to learn more. …Continue
Can you believe it? Last week at this time we were moving into our new place. And here it is a week later and I have managed to do not just one but two sewing/quilting projects! Granted they are small projects, but still. I'm excited! The first is another child's apron. This one is for my great niece Madelynn who turns 5 in September. She is having a 'Brave' (the movie) themed party. I found the fabric on eBay. The princess is Merida. Don't you love the lace at the bottom? Well, you…Continue

Yes, I love to quilt, and I love to smock. My toddler calls the dresses I smock for her "Princess Dresses". Lately, when I sew her a dress I need to make a coordinating one for her 18-inch doll. I have drafted a bishop's smocked dress for her 18-inch doll and am sharing its pattern and results as a smock-along-with-me article on my other blog; as there is not enough room to post the information here. You can view it at…Continue
Ohmigosh..it's been a year since I last wrote. Can't believe it, but it's true. Guess I've been so wrapped up in quilting that I've not been online a lot. So what have I been so busy working on? Well, I've been handquilting a quilt called...well, your guess is as good as mine <G> It's my adaptation of the Bird of Paradise quilt, which can be found at the New York Museum of Folk Art. I used the blocks, then put my own twist on it with broderie perse. I'll be finishing the…Continue

Sorry it's not quilting but I saw this done on Pinterest and wanted to redo my front door and so I gave it a try. A quart of paint, a small roller, a cheap paint brush and 1 hour of time and I got it painted. I used aluminum foil to wrap around the handles...also a tip from Pinterest. The numbers: First, I found a free font I liked on line and downloaded it, then I cut a…Continue

I have a new sewing room... surrounded by a new to us house. DH and I moved to a temporary house (no idea how long temporary will be) over the weekend as Mom's house, where we were living when we cared for my parents, has sold. DH is seeking employment. He was laid off from his job due to lack of government funding. We are doing just fine and feel so blessed. My new sewing room is also DH's computer/office, so it is a bit cozy. LOL We put a lot of our items into storage, so it wasn't too…Continue

It has been a busy week. So busy, in fact, that I forgot to put my knitting up and left it in a chair. DH put it on the floor.
Sunny decided she could improve on my version of the Dogwood Blossoms Cardigan, so she had a go at it. Yum! I'm not sure which was more…Continue
