Quilt With Us

Timing is everything...not always good!

This was hubby's birthday weekend, neighborhood surprise party and making double tray of meatballs for a charity. I'm cooking for a birthday dinner on Friday a.m. when the phone rings and it's longtime fiends wanting to know if we had plans...thought they would come for an overnight. They grew up with us and our families are close, so sure...make more food. The kitchen was wrecked, hadn't taken a shower or done hair...putting the apple pie in the oven for hubby's birthday cake. A car pulls…

Is there a limit?

Do you ever wonder if there is a limit to the mistakes one person can make in a single day?  I'm not sure, but I think I'm almost "achieved" it.  Ka-chow!  Some days it just seems like we should be able to stop and yell "do-over!" like when we were kids.

Now don't get me wrong - I'm not going for sympathy, but rather humor.  None of my mistakes today  have been life-threatening to me or anyone else.  They have just been air-headed goof-ups that make me shake my head and wonder…

Another photo

I posted a couple days ago that we had a sisters reunion on a pontoon.  Here we are left to right with birth order in parentheses:  Marilyn (4th), June (me 3rd), Marlene a.k.a. Dolly (5th), Marsha (2nd), and Karen (1st).  We are so blessed that we are all still on this earth and able to get together; 3 in Wisconsin, 1 in Minnesota summers and Arizona winters, and 1in…

Me again with photos

First, I like star patterns; made this from tiny calico prints I've had for many years.  Don't see much of those prints…

Baby Quilt for my Great Niece

Her Mama likes orange but I wanted to keep it light and airy. This pattern from an old quilt magazine seemed to fit the bill. Backed with chevrons which seem to be quite popular right now. Hope they like it.

It's finally started raining in western Washington

As summers go out here we've had a very mild summer.  Very little rain sense June and not a lot of the hot temps.  It's mostly been in the 80's even in August which kind of surprised me.  I like the warmer weather!

So what does one do when it starts raining?  I finished the mariner quilt the other night, (see earlier post). I've had my next project loaded on the LA sense taking the other off but I haven't figured out all the quilting designs to fill up the space.  Deciding that it…

And my summer is almost over!

Well, here we are...the tail end of summer. I work at our local middle school, we start back on Sept 2, the summer went way too fast. I did get one quilt done this summer for my oldest son's friend. I still need to post a pic of it completed. My goal was to get a queen size quilt done for OUR bed, but that is only in the beginning stages.

I tackled cleaning out many of our closets. I've decided that some sort of hobbit brings things Into this house at night and dumps it all in my closets!… Continue

In answer to Pam in New York

Not much  quilting in this house over the summer; not since May.  A couple weeks ago I was in quilt withdrawal so worked on a wall hanging for church.  It was a panel of Bible verses so cut them and pieced them with coordinating batiks; colors are rusts, browns, tans, etc.  Have another panel in blues, purples, touch of yellow; will do this for church also.  Am still working on Crabapple Hill red embroidery "Winter Wonderland".  Haven't done embroidery for years; kinda fun.  Also have "Over…

I have had my new Tin Lizzie for two weeks and have quilted six quilts-3 baby, 1 lap, 1 twin and 1 queen.  I am having such a good time.  I have picked out fabric for three more tops, like I didn't already have over 50 waiting to be quilted! The quilts I have finished were some printed pieces that were left by my Mom and I am glad to be able to practice on them.  It feels like she is here with me enjoying the learning process.  I even got the floors moped and laundry done this week.…

Practicing my parade wave

Bad picture of an old UFO I've been working on. I think I started this 20 years ago. Holy mackerel, the thing was NOT square when I attacked it. It's better now but yikes. I think I know why I put in in the "later" stack.

As for the title of this post, I'm going to be one of several guests of honor (?) in the parade at a nearby (30miles away) town ( it's so small it…

Finished UFO

I have finished some UFO quilts this Summer,  like two of My Grandmother's Choice (CT has a group). Now there is block of the week for  Jane Austen Album. It is free and it is a blog from Saturday Morning Post. I have pictures but it will take some time to post them. In July I had both of my eyes worked on. Aug. I got to have the right one done over, because the lens dropped through a hole. What a mess and what a mess it is to sew. Did go back to work the past four days. That is my…

Chiming in...

Okay, Pam, here goes:

Mom and I have canned over 20 quarts of apple pie filling, 9 pints of green beans (didn't have too many), 38 pints of salsa, 15 half-pints of apple sauce, 17 pints of hamburger dill pickles, and 11 half-pints of apple butter, along with some jelly.

Right off the bat, I burned the bejeepers out of my hand after spilling the pie filling goop as I was ladling it into jars.  Lesson learned.  It didn't really…

ATTENTION out there....

Where is everyone???? Busy time of the year, buttttt let's hear some chatter!!! I am doing more quilt planning than actual quilting. Need to get some fabric for a couple of baby quilts. We are flying down to Ft. Myers next week and I love the quilt shop in North Ft. Myers...Quilt Lover's Hangout. Making a list and checking it twice for holiday projects. Once I have the items in house then it is non-stop sewing for a few weeks. Our cooler summer makes me want to get back home to start…

Road trip

I recently had an appointment for another blood check in Bangor. I'm doing really well as far as most of my vitals are concerned but the Dr. said my kidneys are only functioning at 30%.  She assured me not to worry that it could be normal for me. I have to go to a pathologist on the 26th of Sept.

My friend Sally took me for the appointment and then we drove down to her aunts in Southern Maine for a few days.  Bud had a fit about me going but I went anyway.  A strange thing happened…

peeps quilt

Working on the Peeps Quilt… 2 down, 20 to go! Since each one takes about a week…this will be quite the long term project.

Finished the Natalia Angel block on August 23rd.  I layered her dress using a textured damask and a cotton with a finished edge.  The pattern didn’t have any hair so I added a few extra lines to it then embroidered a few curls. …

High Fiber—UFO-a-go-go.

I had several irons in the fire this week, but the big news is, I'm coming down the home stretch on my Delectable Pathways quilt.

I got the top pretty much put together yesterday. I still have some appliqué to do on leaves that cross over seams. There are also two seams to sew, left open to make  appliqué and embroidery easier, but otherwise, it's done. This…

AQS show in Grand Rapids, MI

I went up to the AQS show this week and was able to spend the day with another QWU member and her friend.  Had a great time and enjoyed seeing the beautiful quilts.  The show was much smaller than I expected it to be, but that was okay.  Made it that much easier to see the whole thing.  I drove to MI alone and it was so nice.  I stayed with one of my sisters and it was nice to spend time with family as well as see quilts.  Can't ask for more than that.

Tracks in the Garden

Hi, Sorry it's been awhile. I spent most of the summer outdoors with family working on all sorts of projects. We had lots of fun. Now I can get back to the sewing board.

Anyway I just finished a quick little embroidery project.

Like a kid in a candy store!

The Mariner Compass quilt is quilted.  It took me a bit longer than planned, hummm they always seem to do that to me.  All I need to do now is find the material I was using so that I can make the binding and get that put on the quilt and call it finished.  I ran into some problems with this one.  Sense it is set on point, I had to turn the quilt to get to the side setting triangles and had problems with the tension once it was turned.  I will work on that on the next quilt. I'm hoping to…
