Now Halloween is around the corner and I've been working on the Double Wedding Ring..only four more to do and then I can bind it. Yippee! I've started this quilt back in the 90's or was it mid 80's, stuffed it away until I batting time and I've been working on it on and off for the past year. Hand quilting it. It's not perfect matching but the quilting stitch has gotten better.
I can hardly wait until it's completely done. Binding and all.
Also working on the Feathered star… Continue

I found this website that I thought was pretty cool and thought I'd share it. I'm not affiliated with it and I haven't tried it yet so if anyone does please let me know how it works out. It's set up to search for any fabric you need to find...the nifty part is that you can upload a picture of the fabric your searching for...just in case.. like me...I never remember the name or even the manufacturer of pieces I use. Just upload your picture of the fabric and it finds it!! Cool huh?… Continue

I am machine appliqueing and would like to know if there is a certain sewing machine needle I should be using, and ditto on the thread? I'm using regular cotton fabrics on a (only very
slightly) heavier cotton background. The two are bonded with LITE Steam--A-Seam (in the green package), which I like very much. I'm using my Viking Sapphire 850 and a satin stitch. The needles I've been using are mostly universal size 90, but I have tried a topstitching needle too. It just seems like the… Continue

It's been a long time since I posted a blog.
The biggest and best news is my DGS, Ian. I have pictures on my page. I got to meet him for the first time last Friday. He is an adorable little boy and I am so happy to know I now have two wonderful GS's. Ian has a half brother so there's another little boy to claim into the family as well. So as far as I'm concerned, I have 3 GS's now. Ian's mother is a VERY talented and very pretty lady! She paints and plays all kinds of musical… Continue

Hope all is well with you. I havre been busy trying to give my kitchen a small makeover. Putting up the final touches on the wall paper border and want to make some scarf valances but trying to decide if I should serge the edges or just do a overcast seam. I am using a sheer material (chiffon). We are trying to finish with deep cleaning and making some decorative changes to the house.
Want to get it done so I can move on to making more ornaments for the tree… Continue

Well, it isn't my birthday any more, but today was a celebration. DH, my mother and my MIL all gave me "quilting money" for my birthday this year, and I've taken a little time spending it. First I bought a whole cloth quilt kit I've wanted for several years (queen size Welsh Beauty)--of course that took a hefty chunk. Then there was backing and a king size batting for my DWR, another whack. Those were easy decisions--things I had been thinking about and could finally buy. Today I place a CT… Continue

As you know, I'm recooping from pneumonia...so today after over week of being in bed I decided to get up and try to do a little sewing. I have to finish a backing for a top that sits patiently waiting for its day of glory. I cut the yardage and then sewed it together, it didn't take long but I was huffing and puffing and sweating buckets!! Guess that was a labor of love...hehe. But its finished and ready to go, this is the first time I'm sending a quilt off to be quilted professionally... I… Continue

I actually finished this block a bit ago, but am just now getting around to posting it on here! I've been super busy-the past two weekends at the Historical Society we had our All Hallow's Eve event. This is an event that takes place in our 1860's village, it's all historically accurate and shows the different ways they celebrated Halloween in the 1860's, which is mostly games, food, and fortune telling. They also tell the Legend of Sleepy Hollow and have a headless horseman ride through. It's… Continue

When we went on our last trip, I stopped at Quilter's Stash in Westport, WA and bought 2 yds of material. This last week, when I was cutting this mateial for a quilt, I discovered that I was about 1/2 yd short. I told DH husband where I got the material and he said "would you like to go get some?" WOW, I said "yes.". So, on Mon Morning, we left home and drove to Rochester to have the Sr. discount lunch buffet at the Lucky Eagle Casino. They do have a great buffet. Then on to… Continue

Yes friends, the time has come to wrap up the first book of the Roseville Quilters series. On November 4th, I will take the book off-line and begin a new fresh start. For all of you who lost me somewhere on the journey, there will be a summary of events from the first book before I begin the second so you could just jump in again. However, I would suggest that you try to finish the first one and not cheat yourself. The ending, if I do say so myself is one of my finest writing… Continue

I talked to my mom today and she was snuggling into her house. The snow has arrived in North Dakota. The weatherman said 8 to 10 inches and lots of wind = a BLIZZARD.... I checked the calendar again. It is still October!
I do remember some Halloweens walking in the snow and wearing a winter coat over my costume! We have had rain here but none of that white stuff yet!
I have actually sewed the last couple of days and should have a baby quilt ready to sandwich and quilt soon! Be… Continue

Yep this is the end of my weekend. Up bright and early tomorrow morning to begin my work week. So what did I accomplish this weekend???? We watched it rain yesterday, today we watched it rain... Sound exciting? In between that I cut up some more pieces for my Remember When quilt which once I sat down and got to working on it goes pretty quick. I think my issue is that it takes four small blocks to make one block but it is coming along. I spent some time on the computer reading up about copy… Continue

The quilt has been traveling, along with a journal, since this past Feb. to family and friends of my grandmother. It traveled app. 8125 miles and visited 15 states and 20 families. The journal has many entries and pictures. It feels like Christmas and a family reunion combined! Will be fun to read and get acquainted with relatives. This has been an interesting project in many ways. The older relatives of my grandmother who are in their late 80s and 90, were very happy to see the quilt, but were… Continue

I've only ordered from CT once, and I was impressed with how quickly my order came, but last week I put in my second order and I am truly impressed with how fast my order was processed, sent and received! Not only that, I decided to try some of their new batik line; awesome! For almost $5 a yard less, not to mention I am quite pleased with the quality, it is well worth it! Was very happy with the Essentials threads. Found a few colors on clearance that I need in my stash and I got 1200 yard… Continue

Well, its been an interesting morning here in Indy. Tornado Warnings, running into the bathroom for cover, then remembering my burning candles I went running around the house blowing them all out in the storm! AUGH! What a day! Even though I had to unplug the computer for awhile, I finished chapter 28!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! www.rkmquilts.com
