Quilt With Us

October 2012 Blog Posts (125)

my thoughts are with everyone in NY and NJ and anyone else experiencing the devastation from Sandy. we had high winds and lots of rain. trees down and one woman killed by a flying sign that had come loose. today our city council voted to send help to NYC in the form of any workers they need. i hope all my quilting friends are safe and sound.

Looking for Blue Paradise Fabric

Howdy Howdy fellow quilters!

I am brand new to this (posting, not sewing/quilting) but I thought I'd give it a shot--only my first post is a request . . . so sorry . . . I am IN LOVE with the Riviera II Collection, particularly the Light Ocean Mist Paradise fabric (#4930). I have used all of my stash but would really love to make my daughter a dress out of that particular fabric. I called Connecting Threads to see if they had any hidden anywhere, but they do not. The woman I spoke…

It has been awhile

Hello to all my online friends.  I apologize for not posting on here for a long time, our lives have changed immensely since one of our sons took his own life...time I guess.  I have not really done any quilting or sewing, don't seem to get much accomplished, my mind still doesn't seem to want to concentrate.

I am leaving home on Saturday to drive to Vancouver for a few days and then to Seattle, where I am flying out for a trip that may be as long as 6 months!  I will fly from Seattle…

Lucy at 8 weeks

Well we are officially booked up to babysit on 24 November while ourDD and SIL are at a wedding service.

Today DD and Lucy came over at lunchtime - and it was fantastic - we are amazed how she has not only grown but is so much more alert - smiling when you smile, gooing and gaaing and finding her hands to put in her mouth. Very, very engaging.

Ok, we are besotted GPs!

I have attached the best photo from today - she wriggles a lot!…

Been watching on TV here in far off New Zealand what has happened with the storm, it is just dreadful. So many with lost homes and the damage, i really feel for all.  Some years ago my home was flooded so sort of know how these people feel. You know water and power are our friends but they can also bring so much heart break.

Have enjoyed looking at some of the wonderful handwork so many of you are doing.

Keep warm, hugs Pat

Off to Houston!

Going to the big quilt show in Houston has been on my bucket list for a long time. This year--tomorrow--I'm going. My best friend and I are so excited! We got the catalog and studied it and pondered and decided not to try to take a class. We're just going to look, look, look. (and maybe a little shop) We are meeting friends for dinner one night, otherwise, quilts and fabric.

Is anyone else going??

No Sewing today...

I know there is probably as much sugar in these cookies as there is in candy to give to the grandsons...but they are full of love! NYC and the East coast already got tricked...hope they recover quickly...We know how strong New Yorkers are from past experiences, but enough is enough! Have a fun and safe Halloween!…

I've been sorting and sorting. Last evening I found this poem that my dear friend Elaine Waite wrote for me in March 2008. I would like to share with you. She did not title the poem.

Mourning tears called on the Lord.

Save her! Restore!

Let her live, she loves you!

She has many quilts to do!

Bless her days, comfort the nights

Bring her back from death's sight.

You, oh Lord, are the One

Who gives life and the…

I just heard from the CT scan

Just got a call from the doctors office about the CT scan.  I have to go back on Friday for another scan as the one I had showed a shadow on my lungs.  This time the scan will be of my lungs.  They tell me it might just be a shadow but it could be a mass.  So I'm asking for your prayers.  Right now, I'm scared out of my mind.  Cancer runs rampant in my family.  My cousin just had a lung out.  Thank you in advance for your prayers.

You quilters in the path of Sandy, hang on. I don't want any of you lost, injured, damaged in any way. Quilting friends are precious and cannot be replaced. Fabric can.

High Fiber—Progress on All Fronts

We've had some progress on all fronts here. First, we finally got our first snowfall of the season. This was my back yard:

The resorts are happy. Now if it will stay cold enough, maybe they can keep some of it to form the base they will add to when they make snow. (All of our local ski areas made it into the top 10 ski resorts this year.)

The cold…

Here again

Back again.  Downloaded a few photos so will share with you:

First, a counted cross stitch my daughter did and I framed it with fabric for her; she will hang it in her work office.  She is a probation and parole officer.

Next is a Halloween panel I bought last year and finished a month ago; I couldn't resist those little costumed goblin shadows.

Next are 2 photos of tablerunners I made for upcoming craft fairs.  First set, top one is CT fabrics from a few years ago. …

sewing sock beasties

So much more fun than winterizing the house!!!

5 of the 9 or 10 stubby-legged-baby-safe-rattle-tummied-anklet-beasties destined for God’s Tiny Angels in West Virginia http://www.godstinyangels.com/.  They are WIP thus far; I want to get all the Lilliputians sewn together before embroidering all their wee cute faces…

The wind is picking up

Just a few minutes ago I looked out at my maple tree and noticed the leaves were nearly gone.  A gust of wind came up and took every leave that was left on it off in one swoop.  I have to go out and get some groceries that I can prepare without cooking so we can eat if the power goes out.  We are expecting some high winds and heavy rain starting tonight.  I'm thinking about all you people in the path of this storm and praying for your safety.

To update you on my health,  I am being…
