Meet "Skeeter" The New Man in My LIfe!!!!

This my friends is "Skeeter" a 3 month old Phantom Toy Poodle.  We got him Saturday, oh what fun we have had.  It has been so long since we have had a puppy in the house!!! He sure does keep DH and I on our toes.  He looks a lot like Mr Man, however, Mr Man was a minature.  Skeeter being a toy should not get over 10 lbs.  Precious is having trouble accepting him but I am…

High Fiber—Talented Friends and Craftsmen

Common Threads met at Julie's on Thursday. Julie had this Halloween quilt on the wall:

The blocks were pieced, but the "appliqué" squares are cheater cloth. (For non-quilters, cheater cloth is cloth printed to look like pieced or appliquéd fabric.) Jean made one just like this, her first quilt! She backed it with Minky fabric (sort of a…

Good Bad and the ugly

This weekend I had the pleasure of hosting my friend Janith and her husband Ted from New Hampshire.  She was here to attend our guild Annual Meeting.  They arrived on Friday under sunny skies.  We had a nice dinner together and the evening was spent with Janith and I in my sewing room and the "boys" watching a football game and chatting up a storm.  Saturday turned a bit…

A great day with my big Sis

A couple of weeks ago my sister proudly proclaimed she had done an extensive clean, sort and organization of her sewing room. I teased her that she could come do mine any time. Sure enough, she showed up yesterday at 9 am and we attacked my bombed out sewing room until 5:30 pm.  It is now so clean and beautiful I'm going to be scared to mess it up. Some of you would probably be appalled at some of the things I threw out but really, if I haven't used the fabric in the last 20 years, I really…

Almost home........

A few weeks ago I posted here that my dh and I were planning a trip to New England and asked for input about the area.  Well, we left Ohio on Oct. 8th and will be home tomorrow afternoon--almost 2 weeks on the road.  It has been an amazing trip and we packed as much into our time as we could. I did get to Keepsake quilting and Quilting threads in New Hampshire. LOVED my time in those shops!  We then made our way over to Bar Harbor, Maine.  Loved our time there.  Then made our way down…

Upgrades are the bomb...

Went to see the Jersey Boys today...we had wonderful tickets to begin with ...6 rows from the stage but to the right. The usher meets us and says two of you may not see as well come with me...so since I got the original tickets they decided I should be one of the two. He seated us two rows from the stage, center stage!! So, I said...geez this is wonderful, but we are a party of four and I feel sooooo bad. He went and got the other two. OH What A Night!!! We will be singing Frankie Vallie and…

In the Land of 'V'

I finished my October 12x12 for the ACEO group's Alpha-Dorable 12's challenge early this week, which was a good thing as I got hit with flu and flare mid-week.  Today I felt well enough to put together the Smilebox of how I made it. This one was GREAT fun to do. Hope you enjoy it.…

Quality sewing merchandise - cheap! In Columbus, Ohio

I visited a friend yesterday who has a homebased business - smocking and heirloom sewing.  She has recently taken in merchandise from a lady who is liquidating an sewing store - smocking/heirloom etc. and WOW does she have some great patterns and fabric!  It all must go and fast!!!

I scored a roll of BEAUTIFUL peach moire, book on silk ribbon embroidery, and a bunch of patterns.  There is so much there at such great prices!!!  If you can swing the trip I think you'll be so glad you…

White Dresses and Country Roads

I recently went through old photos of our family homestead to find new photos to revamp my book covers. (It’s been twenty years since I wrote Butter in the Well, my first book…so I thought it was time for updates.) Because these books are about the farm where I grew up, I looked for scenes with…

Ahhh thumb is still attached!

Yesterday the 1/2 cast came off the hand and I indeed still had thumb attached.  The wrist is stiff and I still have sore spots but at least I can use my hand again.

So the day that all this started, I had gone over to visit El prego daughter as she calls her self.  One of the things she asked me for was a pillow case for her "body pillow" . I know you've all scene them the…

Spring Cleaning in Fall

I have been meaning to “spring clean” my sewing room all year but kept putting it off. I thought maybe if I just bit the bullet and did it then it might jump start my holiday sewing. So I dug everything out of the walk-in closet --man can you cram a LOT of things in a small walk in closet! It was like a magician’s hat, stuff just kept coming out. Pretty soon I had enough stuff strewn haphazardly over the bed that I could have probably opened a quilt store.  Then I was in a cleaning frenzy -…

Monkey Madness not the film

Monkey Madness…

A Cautionary tale features a fictionalized… OK not really fiction as I am quite real…and highly exaggerated take on the purchase, dismemberment and reconstruction of foot wear of assorted variety and quality. No cartel socks were used in the making of these monkeys.  A singleton of a monkey maker will lead innocent socks into the depths of…

What a Tremendous Fall

Our fall in Ontario has been spectacular! I think our Spring, Summer and Fall have been true to their seasons and we have had the chance this year to really enjoy them. I honestly hope we get a wonderful snowfall. I am currently making some 4 1/2in leaves for a swap thought I would post a couple of pictures.

It really has been a busy start the  Quilt guild committes in our area have been working extra hard with programs and we have had some excellent guest speakers.…

Jelly Roll project

Have never done a jelly roll quilt...but thought, it would be fun. Came across this color combo and decided to try it for a bed runner. I separated the colors, but now that I did it, maybe I should have just used them as they were rolled up...next time! I will decide how I want to quilt it in the next days...…
