What was I thinking, oh and pieced quilt top almost done

The other day my daughter and I were having coffee.  She wanted to get her car washed and gas before running out to her dads to get her dog a cute black lab.  Off we go to the carwash.  Hummm can't find her bank card. Was I surpised by this?  She had and empty tank and wanted to go insearch of her card.  Mom to the rescue of course.  Ok I wasn't about to push her car to the next gas station!  Then her dad calls and wanted her to get her dog out of his house.  "Mom can she stay with you just…

Wow, end of November already

I can't believe Christmas is just around the corner already!  I am not able to do very much sewing this yr because of having my right knee replaced on Nov 8th, but I did manage to get a new pillowcase made for one of my gds.  I still need to make her little brother a new one, but fortunately they are pretty easy to do.   I am healing up much better from this knee surgery than I did last yr when I had my left knee done.  So while I am still having some pain, etc. I feel confident that by…

Hi to all,

I haven't been on the site for awhile and need to get on my soap box for a minute. I watched Dr.Oz yesterday and was blown away. His show was about Hunger in America and I had no idea there were so many folks who struggle to feed their children, these were middle class folks who lost their jobs and can't find another one. This problem is all over our country, not just one area, I'm asking all in the US to give to your local food bank or to donate to "Share our Strength" so…

Holiday shopping...Grrrrrrr

What is wrong with people? Went shopping with the Bffs yesterday. When I shop in big stores, I have to use a wheelchair. So, I'm in a wide aisle, but probably could have been over to the right further. Something caught my eye, I was zoning out looking at it..when someone bumped the back of my chair with a cart. It was a man about 45 with his wife. Didn't say a word, he goes around and hits the side of my chair and didn't excuse himself. I said, well excuse me, he kept going. The morning coffee… Continue

Sore fingers are no excuse

have you ever just loved your progress and the eyes are tired and the bed is  calling and ya ya ya. I left out the sore fingers. Applique is so fun and makes your quilting jump up a notch. I am painting muslin and adding lining with permanent ink. Being a watercolor artist first leads to lots of fun with fabric. i start with 3 colors and a store bought fabric that works alongside. This will help you to learn color and see how they work together.     I am looking for quilters near me who…

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and is now gearing up for Christmas.  I have a little to do, not much business so far this year.  I am doing a craft sale at my church.

i wanted you all to see the T-shirt quilt I made for a client.  I had fun desiging the quilt and putting it together.  I had a little fun with the quilting and I am getting more comfortable with my machine. (Now that it works the way it should).

Also I am down over 40 lbs.  My clothes are getting to big,…

"Couching" Project: Cranberry Bear

Last August, I posted a question about how to properly do couching.  I had several fine answers and I hope I did it right.  Pam said she would "need a photograph", so here it is.  I call him Cranberry Bear.  The couching is done on all the little dark branches and stems on the bushes behind which the bear is standing.  I used Sashiko thread.  He is not quilted yet, but he is layered and basted.…

The Pioneer’s Cyber Monday Sales

While we’re ordering our holiday gifts online today because of Cyber Monday sales, I can’t help but think of the contrast of now, versus 150 years ago, when Kansas was being homesteaded by pioneers of several different nationalities.

Think how simple and thankful the pioneers were for their holidays and gift giving. When you read the diary entries from …

High Fiber—Finishing WIPs and UFOs

This week I'm frantically finishing up some projects that have to be done for Christmas or before. Remember Rocky's sweater, started last week?

I wanted him to have a nice one for the Christmas season to replace the old acrylic sweater he had been wearing around the house in the winter. This was a quick knit, using Swish worsted in "Hollyberry." You can find the yarn …

Feel like Sleeping Beauty....NOT

Got back yesterday from a long long weekend with our son, DIL and granddog Abbey.  Had a wonderful time and with lots of football and great food but.....Why is it, as we get older, guest beds just don't feel as good as they used to.  I've slept in their guest bed for several years and all of a sudden...nothing about it was right.  Tossed and turned all night, every night for 4 nights.  I decided to make up for lost sleep and went to bed last night at 7:30....does that remind you of your…

A card for Glenda

This is my first blog post and I wanted to share an email that I received from a member of the Road To California's Quilt Show.  It is about the show's events, but it is the personal note that tugged at my heart.

A Personal Note

My sister just celebrated her 67th birthday, however due to a birth injury she is mentally retarded - about 6 - 8 yrs of age.  She lives in a “care home” and basically…

Nativity Poem

I negleected to post the poem I made up for distributing the nativity set pieces to my grandchildren.  Each verse tells the ongoing story of the birth of Jesus, and with each verse, I give a piece or two (or, in the case of the shepherds and sheep, three pieces) a year until the set is completed.  We're up to the angels this year, as I previously posted.   The angels are more than 3/4 completed so looks like we'll make it.  Next year I have two shepherds and a sheep…

Well, what can I say. Took me some time to figure out how and where to find a suitable photo provider so I could set up a sort of 'gallery' for my blogger site. I think it's silly that blogger has no photo thingy of it's own. I had to find one that allowed 'commercial' use since my site does encourage orders. Now that's a project in itself-getting people to consider placing a order. Anyways, had to travel out of town for Dr visit, all is well but need 2 more visits. Winter is awful time for…
