we can make plans but......

I was reading my last post and the plans we had... Seemed like good plans, but all that changed July 16, 2014 when the steer tire blew and we wrecked. I had two broken arms, 4 broken ribs, left femur broken, chips missing on my lumbar vertebrae and ruptured spleen. They gave me quite a bit of blood and the Dr said it was iffy whether I'd pull through a couple times. William had seven broken ribs on his left side, dislocated shoulder and bruised his left femur. He had lumbar fractures too. We… Continue

Why isn't white -- white?

I have been working on a number of different projects lately and have been using up the remainder of a bolt of white that I purchased a long time ago as my background or neutral.  When I decided to make another block for my The Quilt Pattern Magazine EQ Creativity Call sampler, I went to pull some of that white I have been using, only to discover I did not have…

My day

Hello everyone.  Today I tried to make a little mug rug.  It had a little tree and a few designs.  The pattern said it was for a newbie but I have to tell you it must have been for a very advanced newbie.  I call it:::::: How to screw up a perfectly good tree in 3 steps.......I can read, I'm a logical person but the tutorials is not well written as most are.  Sometimes I think I'm dumb and then I think..........no.......if they say to cut so many pieces and then when you put them together,…

Furoshiki Fun

As Christmas approaches, I have started thinking about wrapping presents with fabric. Each year we throw away so much wrapping paper - what a waste! Please check out my Notions blog today to learn about traditional Japanese wrapping cloths called…

Quick post -

I found this on-line and thought it was cute.  Just a little frazzled trying to get ready for company.  Cattle work set me back a little, so the housework fell waaaay behind.  Yikes!  Trying to catch up and still need to run to town for groceries.  Here's to a relaxing week with enough time squeezed in to count our blessings!…

Thankful and other things

First I have to say I wish I could wrap the world in a big Thanksgiving Hug and end all the problems we are seeing happening all over the world. Alas, I have no magic wand and will have to content myself doing what I can to make a difference.

I am so thankful for family, yes, that includes my pain-in-the-butt sister. Hopefully, one day and with God's help, she'll see what she has done and will change. Hey, I still believe in Santa Clause so there's hope, right! I will get to see my…

A most exciting announcement!

On Saturday afternoon, my son and daughter-in-law flew to Tokyo to pick up their new baby girl!  We are all so excited as this has been a very long road, filled with disappointments that they have had to travel to finally become parents.  Her name is Sophia Rebecca and she’s 8 weeks old.   I have been asked to not post any photos onto the ‘net until the adoption is final, so no pictures for six long months!  But I can assure everyone that’s she’s a little cutie pie!  I’m finally a Nana!! …

High Fiber—Stitches and Snow

It was a great week for quilting. Common Threads met at Janet's, and we had a variety of projects.

Ellen is working on the second block for her Home Sweet Home quilt. She isn't sure if she'll make all of the blocks or not, but she has a great start. (Her…

Coffee anyone?

DH wanted a cup of coffee this morning, just one cup, so he used his press that will do one cup right into the mug.  He got his coffee beans ground up fine ... then the fun began.  When he put the grounds into the press and lifted it to place over his mug he discovered that he did not have the base (where the filter and strainer is located) screwed on, so all the grounds went all over the counter. LOL  Not one to waste good grounds, he screwed the bottom onto the press and took the grounds…

Hello everyone.  I'm still working on cleaning everything up after the renovations and getting my sewing room going.  I'm kind of sad as my daughter doesn't seem to want anything to do with me.  It's a long story.  My ex and I have been divorced almost 18 years.  She is 33.  It's a lonnnnnnnng story but I try so hard to have her in my life.  She doesn't call and when I do send her a message and she does answer, the answer is very short.  I guess this is just one of those days that I'm…

Another scam or 2. Be careful!

Apparently there is another scam going on. Predators are putting 100 dollar bills under your windshield wiper and when you get out to retrieve it, they rob you or steal your car. I just don't understand the minds of these people.

Also, I heard there is some sort of key fob scrambler, that when you lock your vehicle with your key fob the predators can get the code to unlock your car and either steal your car or everything in your car. They suggest when getting out of your car hit the…

Mug Rugs

I normally try to make a little something for both of my sisters for Christmas.  One has a birthday on Dec 14th & the other on Jan 10th so I consider what I make to be birthday gifts too.  I decided to make them each a mug rug & wow, all I can say is it can become kind of addicting to make these cute little jewels!  LOL  What a great way to use up scraps left over from other projects too!  I am going to buy a cute Christmas mug for each of them too.…

What sells raffle quilt tix?

My guild has been having steadily declining sales of tickets for our raffle quilt for the past 8 years or so.  I believe there was a small upward bump one year when we did a paper pieced star quilt that was all blue and green batiks.  Another small bump came when we did a sampler quilt with traditional colors/fabrics.

This led us to have a discussion wondering what elements of a quilt tend to attract…
