Quilt With Us

November 2016 Blog Posts (18)

I am currently in a new quilting group who loves using connecting threads threads. Our group quilt in an old church where we love to have free donations of thread and fabrics that we can make quilts etc. This is a group where ladies of the community love to get together to sew and have great social time together. A lady bought this church in hopes that it would bring the community closer. She has done a wonderful job and we are so happy when we come together to sew and make new creations. We…

Happy Thanksgiving to one and all

Just dropped in to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.  I believe I shocked everyone at work by telling them that I wasn't going to work today.  It is my normal day off and I didn't feel the need to go in today just because....  Although, I think I should have.  I was looking forward to a peaceful holiday and now I have a whole bunch of people coming over.  Cookies are made.  Pies were finished last night and in a little bit Tom Turkey will be prepped and put in the oven.  Enjoy the family…

Happy Thanksgiving to Everyone

Our second dusting of snow arrived last night. It's melting fast but from the looks of the weekend weather forecast we have some nasty weather to look forward too.  But what can I say, it Winter in Maine and it's just the beginning of what's to come.

I want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.  The day after, I will be dragging out my Christmas trimmings and decorating the apartment.  After the holidays I like the slow pace of Winter. Staying in where it's, warm working on sewing…

Snowy day means good time to sew....

We are getting the first snow of the season and it has everything at a standstill! Could have eased us into it...

Been wanting to finish up a tree skirt for a new smaller tree I bought this year. I love the size and it is remote controlled!!! This was a pattern that Irene made a runner. I made a bed runner and liked it so much decided it would be perfect for a…

I'm still here, in case your wondering

This Summer and Fall have been super busy in my life and also my sewing room. Lots of alterations all Summer plus the usual Summer activities. No court date yet. It keeps getting postponed.

I'm working on a quilt called Wild Flower by MSQC.  I'm hoping to get two of them done for my two youngest granddaughters. I haven't picked a pattern yet for their brother.  I would like to get them done for Christmas but with company in Sept. and also Oct.  I'm running behind on them.  Burning…

Fall Clean-out

   Stack #1 - for MorsBags

Stack #2 - for MorsBags & Charity

Ok, so, I am a fabric hoarder and I admit it. Now,  I limit myself to purchases that are necessary and I do not go to a quilt shop to "browse".  That's very dangerous.…

Busy busy

This time of year is always super busy for me. This week I got to work on an absolutely stunning hand appliqued Nutcracker quilt. She not only hand appliqued it, it has so many tiny embellishments on each block. Buttons, beads, and glittery threads. She made it for her daughter and grandson and the whole time I was working on it I just kept thinking how lucky her daughter and grandson are. This quilt is hands down the most beautiful quilt I've had the pleasure of quilting! I am going to try…

Winter is Coming - Again

I confess, it’s my least favorite time of the year.  November in our valley can be unbelievably depressing – we often don’t see the sun for weeks on end and the days get steadily shorter until by early December we’re down to about 7 hours of daylight and that’s only on days when there isn’t any cloud cover.  Which isn’t often.  There’s snow on the mountain tops, but down here in the valley it’s just been day after day of rain.  Living this far north, summers favour us with…

Shannon cuddle blankets

The airplane one is for baby Ian.  (Yes, Grandma is a little late getting it done.)

This one is for a baby shower (nephew's baby) I'm attending today.  Baby is due in January.  She wanted a minkee fabric front…

Flannel baby quilt.

My sister-in-law ordered this baby quilt for a friend.  She wanted something big-block, flannel, woodsy, reds/blues/greens, with parent/baby silhouettes.  Started from scratch and came up with this.  Borrowed the elk track idea from one of Carol Ann's quilts - the raspberry chocolate mousse quilt.

I used a faux ultra-suede for the silhouettes, flannel for the…

Baby quilt

The couple who got married this summer that I made a quilt for are expecting.  I found this panel and just had to buy it! It's an easy fix to my lack of time to make them something before the little one arrives. Of course it isn't square, I don't think I've ever purchased a panel that is, so I tried to square it on the frame but I wasn't completely successful so I will have to cut down the border which is why there isn't anything fancy quilted in the border. *sigh* I am pleased with how it…

Survived quilt retreat

I love quilt retreat. I am not smart enough to take a reasonable number of projects to work on. No not me. I fill the trunk of the car with my machine and boxes of UFO's. This year though I did a pretty good job of focusing on the applique borders for a long term project. My goal is to get them sewn onto my center so my BFF can help me baste it before she scoots out for the winter.

Next week is my deadline. Ooops, I'd better get back to work.
