My DH and I went to a quilt show a few weeks ago. There were a lot of beautiful antique quilts that I enjoyed looking at. And guess what! They were not all perfect. There were mistakes and it made me feel so much better. I don't have to achieve perfection when I quilt. Who knew?
One of the booth's had cutting forms that mystified me. Somehow they held onto the fabric and could be moved without the fabric falling off. Pieces could be cut perfectly. The cutting table was hydraulic and…Continue
The Ohio Quilters group is planning a get together in Amish country on October 25th. We are meeting at Der Dutchman restaurant at 11:30-12:00. We are planning a stash swop and show and tell during lunch along with plenty of chatting and getting to know one another. Then we plan on going to a few quilt shops for, of course, shopping! We are planning on having a great time and if any of you want to join us you are certainly welcome. You can even bring your sewing friends if you like. You do…Continue
Yesterday my husband and I went to the Zoar Harvest festival. We toured the old houses, gardens, and craft booths. We looked through the antique dealers tent and I spotted a couple old sewing machines. They were child sized and so nice but no way could I manage the price tags! I do like to collect thimbles and saw a few I liked but again the price tags made me grit my teeth in frustration. I guess I'll go back to garage sales. I do adore a good deal. What are the chances I'll be able to find…Continue
Who says an old dog can't learn new tricks? It has only taken me 2 hours but I managed to download pictures of my latest quilt and also some pictures of two totes I made. I am so proud of myself! Now if I could just remember how I did it. I am sure I did it the round about way but I managed all by myself. My kids would be so proud of me!
I just got done redoing my page and what a blast it was! I am a bright color person and I really laid it on. If anyone can't read it please let me know so I can change it. I felt like a little kid with a big box of crayons. It takes so little to make me excited.
Today I plan on taking one more round of quilting stitches on my daughter's quilt and I will finish up the pillow I made her out of the scraps. Then I hope to post some pictures. My next project will be a full sized strip…Continue
I am about half way thru my quilt as you go quilt. Looking at it I think I am missing about 3 inches on each side! I am piecing the top pieces onto the batting and back material and I don't think I have enough for my pieces to fit. AND I missed the middle! Drat! I measured so carefully and marked the middle but things are a little lopsided. Good grief Charlie Brown. I told my DH the next time I measure he is going to have to help me. Then I can blame him instead of me. Hee hee. Well I think…Continue
Ladies, I got a new sewing machine! It is a Brother Dream Creator. It sews, quilts and embroiders. It has so many decorative stitches that it will take me a year to try them all. I am just so excited about it! It is just what I wanted and thought I would never be able to afford. A special "thank you" goes out to Somewhere Sewing and another goes out to Carol for recommending them to me. I got a wonderful deal. Got the 2 receiving blankets done and also the ruffled purse for my daughter…Continue
I have decided to bite the bullet. I am going sewing machine shopping this Friday. I have my budget figured out and the amount I will be able to spend. I have my list of features I want. I will have my husband at my side so he can hold me back if I decide to go crazy. He manages to keep my feet firmly planted in reality. I am so excited I feel like a kid at Christmas. I will keep all of you posted on my progress!
Has anyone else been hit with this strange affliction? It hit me suddenly or maybe not so sudden. Perhaps it has been a thought in the back of my brain for awhile, growing. It would whisper in my ear occasionally when I was looking at a project and knew that it would be a joy with a beautiful new machine. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? My dream machine would do everything. Quilting, embroidery, regular sewing and have every fancy stitch known to womankind. Of course it would have…Continue
Went to my sewing room with wonderful intensions. I have an invitation to a baby shower and had purchased some wonderful flannel to make receiving blankets. The baby is a girl so of course I got a lot of pink and pastel colors for the blankets. I love the feel of flannel and like working with it. Started to do some fancy edge sewing and my machine jammed, then jammed again and again. I rethreaded and tried making adjustments to no avail. I have to admit I did drop my foot screw into the…Continue
Cannot believe it has been so long since I have been on this site! Wow! I have finished a tilting blocks quilt which I gave to my youngest daughter for her birthday. She recently got married at Myrtle beach and we all had a great time. The bride was beautiful and the groom handsome. And the quests were jovial and happy. When the happy couple had their first dance as a married couple Mitch (groom) dipped Kaleigh (bride) and dropped her! We have a picture of it and you should see the look on…Continue
Hello to all! Welcome to the most beautiful time of the year here in Ohio. The trees are starting to turn color and the sky is the most wonderful shade of blue (when the sun shines that is). I admit I am a fall junkie. I even love wearing chunky sweaters and jeans!
I have been missing posts from other quilters and I wonder if any of you have the same problem. When someone posts on my blog there is no notification so I can read it. I recently missed a post that invited me to attend…Continue
It's been a while since I have posted. I have been making pillowcases for Christmas presents and tote bag for my daughter's birthday. She will get that this Sunday. Have also been trying to spend time with my dad. He has dementia and has been admitted to a nursing home. It is breaking my heart. He knows his memory is going and he says he feels like a prisoner. He remembers when he was a young man but cannot remember what I just said to him. He asks the same question or tells the same story…Continue
i've been thinking, quilting is like putting a jigsaw puzzle together. Small pieces that go together to make a bigger picture, hopefully. You can't break anything or hurt anything. You just work at getting it to look nice. I think that is a good attitude. I really can't hurt my quilt, I can only make a mistake and rip it out. Heaven knows I did a lot of that when I made my own clothes and my daughters. No harm done! Will have all day tomarrow to start sewing and that is the most fun for me.…Continue
Didn't get to sew on Sunday like I had hoped. My back was giving me fits and I thought I better rest it for awhile. Besides, I am a little nervous about starting the big S. I will get my courage up this coming weekend, tho. I have my mind made up. I keep looking at the pieces and re-reading the directions. Maybe I'll have some idea of what I am doing by the time I start. I know I can do it. It is just a matter of convincing the little doubt shadow that follows me around sometimes. Will keep…Continue
Yahoo! I have finished cutting and can start sewing! It is the small victories that get me so excited. One baby step at a time. Maybe tomarrow I will find the extra time to begin sewing my first blocks. Cat wall hanging here I come! Look out sewing machine. Cindee is on a roll!
I have a goal. I want to get a cat themed quilt done in time for next January. I know some of you girls think that is a laugh because you are so speedy and can get things done so quickly but I am a newbie and have not yet started sewing on my quilt. It is really only a wall hanging but it seems so big to me. There will be a quilt show at the cat museum in Alliance next year at this time and that is when I want to have it done. Someday I will look back on this and laugh but right now it seems…Continue
Wow, what a great bunch of girls! I got such a response I was overwelmed. I look forward to meeting those of you who offered and will wait to hear from you. Waynesburg is about 30 minutes from Omish country so it is pretty close. I can't wait to go shopping and taking advantage of all the invitation I have received. Thanks and thanks again. Hope to see you all real soon, or as soon as the weather gets better. Keep in touch. I'll be back real soon!
I took the first cuts of my very first quilt yesterday. I was scared to death wishing I had someone to stand over me and give me advice. Anyone ever have that experience? I have never taken a quilting class and am trying to do this myself by reading instruction books. Does anyone have any advise? I can sure use it. I plan on hitting the sewing room in a few hours. Any help would be greatly appreciated. (No one in my family has ever done quilting)
