Let's Share our Love of Quilting !

Quilters are a generous bunch and love to share their love of quilting with their community.  Many of us donate  projects to different organizations.

Here is one of the community quilts that I have just completed.  Each member of our guild is encouraged to complete two lap quilts each year to donate to different groups in our community.…

At Long Last my Southern Stars sampler quilt is finished !

Good morning !  It has been extremely hot here in Georgia for a while.  Way too hot for gardening, so I am spending some quality time in my sewing room, working on some UFO's.

I just finished my Southern Stars sampler quilt.  It has been a long process.  Completed all my blocks with the CT Quilt Along group a couple of years ago and then eventually assembled the top.  It sat in my pile of UFO's until this spring when I added the borders and sent it to a local LAQ.  Finally put the…

Merry Christmas !!!

Take a cup of good wishes

And a brimming bowl of cheer

Add dashes of happiness

Throughout the whole year.

Spice it up with kindness

And stir in lots of love

Add a pinch of Christmas Spirit

From the Star that shines above.

Warmest wishes to all my quilting friends for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Memory Bear - Compassionate Hospice

Good morning ! I thought I would share with you a community project of the Atlanta Chapter of the American Sewing Guild (ASG). As a member of the Sew Becumming group here in Georgia, I have made my first Memory Bear from a garment supplied by a grieving family. This bear was made from a pj top, using Simplicity pattern 5461. It was a bit of a challenge to match the plaid pattern, using a recycled garment, but I think it came out quite good.…

Happy Valentines from snowy Georgia !

It has snowed in Georgia for the 2nd time this year. Wow!!!

It's just beautiful outside this morning. The sun is shining and the snow is sparkling. We only got about 3 inches here north of Atlanta, but the roads were slushy and then turned to a sheet of ice once the temperature started to fall. Sure makes a mess of things, though.

We just sat home last night, put a fire in the fireplace and watched the opening ceremonies of the Winter Games in Vancouver.…

Merry Christmas ! ! !

No one's ever seen him, yet we all can recognize

The bright red suit, the dimpled cheeks, the merry, twinkling eyes.

No one's ever heard him, yet we've somehow come to know

Exactly how it sounds each time he chuckles, "Ho, ho, ho!"

And when it's time to settle down to sleep on Christmas Eve,

No one ever says so, yet each of us believes!

Quilt Challenge

The 2009 Quilt challenge from my local guild was: Children + Books + Quilts.

The challenge: design and create a baby quilt based on depiction or description in a children book.

The book I chose: Patchwork Island by Karla Kuskin, and illustrated by Petra Mathers, is a story-poem about a mother who stitches a quilt for her toddler that is decorated with images from her Canadian island home, in Prince Edward Island. I truly enjoyed creating this quilt since I am a Canadian… Continue

Quiet Time !!!

Hi ! Hope you all had a great weekend and that you are having a great quilting day. I am enjoying a quiet day - no tv - just music in the background.

My DS, DIL and dear GD flew back home yesterday afternoon after spending a week with us. We had not seen them since Christmas, so DH took a week's vacation and we all had a great time. The guys went cycling, we all went swimming, spent a day at the Georgia Aquarium - what an interesting place to visit - and another day at the outlet… Continue

Looking for quilt shops in the Maritimes

Good afternoon fellow Canadian quilters !

One of my friends from Ontario asked me if I knew some good quilt shops in the Maritimes - especially New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. She will be travelling there later on this month and I'll be visiting later on in August. I lived in the Maritimes for 20 years, but I was not a quilter back then. Would you have any suggestions for us ?

When visiting my son in the Halifax area, I used to go to The Cotton Patch in Bedford, Is it still… Continue

Paducah was great !

Came back from Paducah last night. What a great experience! It was everything I had heard and read about and more.... It really becomes Quilt City. Spent the whole day at the show on Friday. Amazing quilts - some more traditional, some very artsy and some simply incredible. WOW ! A few were hand painted on fabric and then enhanced with free motion machine quilting. One was even bleach painted on black fabric to create all kind of earth tones. Unbelievable. So much talent.

There were also… Continue

And off to Paducah we go.....

Good morning ! I am so excited, I am leaving for the Paducah Quilt Show this afternoon - coming back home on Sunday night. I have been thinking about this since we moved to Georgia last August. Made hotel reservations at least six months ago, but could not easily find something in Paducah - we are staying in Benton, about half an hour away - that's ok.

I know this is an annual event for many of you, but you see I am a Canadian and Paducah was a long way from home. lol . We would talk about… Continue

Getting Ready to Sew / Quilt

Good morning from sunny Georgia !

I thought I would share this with my fellow quilters. It's from a Singer Sewing Machine Manual from 1949.

"Prepare yourself mentally for sewing. Think about what you are going to do.... never approach sewing with a sigh or lackadaisically. Good results are difficult when indifference predominates. Never try to sew with a sink full of dirty dishes or beds unmade. When there are urgent housekeeping chores, do these first so your mind is free… Continue
