I can not believe that I haven't been on QWU for almost 2 years!!! I guess I have been busy, but time really flies. I have spent the past 13 months making "The Circle Game", a quilt by Jen Kingwell. I took a class with 2 of my friends; it was so much fun and probably the most challenging quilt I have ever made. It feels great to be finished! How is everyone doing? I hope some of my QWU friends are still here.…Continue
We are finally getting settled in our new house! It's great to be home and reconnecting- in person- with our families and friends. We've been having fun unpacking, being retired together & and even enjoying the snow and the mountains. Our daughter and her family have visited twice (and we took Ellie sledding as you can see from the picture). I've been setting up my quilting space in our unfinished basement…Continue
We are moving home to Colorado on Wednesday! The floods in Colorado were devastating for so many people, but all of our family and friends are ok. I called our builder and our new house is totally fine, no flooding. We sold our house here and we are in an apartment with our dog, but it has been fine. I can tell you I have been really stressed out because we didn't sell our house here until last week. A friend of ours bought it then…Continue
I finished the second graduation quilt for our niece; it is also a Yellow Brick Road out of the Marmalade fabric. I decided I should cut the batting for my friend/ long arm quilter; lo and behold, it was too short! I work at a quilt shop and I can't cut my own batting?!?! Anyway, I bought 20 fabrics in half yard cuts and I have been able to make 3 quilts out of it!! So I will use the short batting on the smaller quilt I made for me! Good grief!
I feel like I am flying around! We flew to Colorado for our niece's high school graduation two weeks ago, then the next weekend we had a birthday party for me in our backyard so it was cleaning, weeding, planting, and painting. Then three days later we flew to Chicago for our granddaughter's first birthday, then we flew home and I worked at the quilt shop for 2 days and…Continue
I had to go to our Bernina store to get a quarter inch foot with the guide for my BabyLock so I ordered my Tutto Trolley and a little bag for the top. I got turquoise because they didn't come in blue. Can't wait for club so I can get everything organized and take it!
Right after Christmas I wanted to work on my Chocolate BonBons quilt (which I have already posted a picture of in my Primitive Group). I had made the flower applique pieces and put them in a safe place, but of course that was not it the plastic Artbin box with all of the other fabrics, the magazine that has the pattern, the bias stems I had already made. I've been looking for the appliques everywhere. Well, when my family and friends came for Easter I moved all the quilt blocks in…Continue
I have been sewing all day, finishing a T-shirt quilt for a former student; I also taught with his mom. Anyway, he is graduating from college this year. I don't feel old because my first class of second grade kids are 47 or 48!!!
The point is that…Continue
Good morning! I am thinking of getting a Tutto Sewing Machine Trolley...basically luggage for a sewing machine. I am going to "sew" many clubs and classes that I find my already sore hand, elbow, and shoulder are getting worse!! I injured my elbow and shoulder last summer gardening, and I have been trying to take it easy. Anyway, I was looking at the rolling sewing machine luggage and thought these look good. Just wondering if anyone has one and how they like it.
Yesterday I began learning a new art.... RUG HOOKING! I have been wanting to start rug hooking for about 2 years, but I didn't think I needed One More Thing. Well, we had "Woolies" at the shop where I work ( it's a hand sewing get together once a month & people hand quilt, English paper piece, rug hook, knit, wool applique, embroider, or whatever) It's free - just show up. There are basically…Continue
It's hard to believe I haven't been on Quilt With Us for almost 5 months. So much has happened; my beloved mother passed away after Christmas and I miss her terribly. Although she had a long good life and was healthy for most of her 91 years...I miss her.
Also my husband has decided to retire from his job in December of this year. We will be moving back home to Colorado, which we are really happy about. We will be close to…Continue
I finally got all my traveling behind me, and although it was wonderful, it's nice to be home for a few months. We won't travel again until Christmas. The sewing mood finally appeared and I got a couple things going. One is the center medallion for the "Chocolate BonBons" quilt from Primitive Quilts and Projects magazine. I have the rest ready to put together, but had to stop and make a grizzly bear costume for my DGD. I also knitted her a witch hat, but it is huge! She won't be able to…Continue
PS: I did get Ellie's quilt finished BEFORE we drove to Chicago!! Here is a picture of Ellie on her quilt. I'm going to take a picture of her on it every year on her birthday! Can't wait to see how she grows...too fast!
My granddaughter was born yesterday morning May 23rd at 4:13 a.m. Her name is Eleanor Ruth ~ "Ellie" and she is beautiful! I'm putting the binding on her quilt right now (just had to take a little break from sewing:).
I went to Chicago for my DD and DSIL's baby shower. I had the quilt top finished but not the quilting. :( They love it! They went to Alaska to camp for their honeymoon and to observe grizzlies. She wanted a grizzly bear quilt based on the artist Charley Harper, and this is what I came up with. The baby is due May 24th, so we will be going back to Chicago very soon & I WILL HAVE THIS QUILT QUILTED!! I promise, cross my heart. I can't wait to become Nana! Maybe she will be born on my…Continue
My daughter has finished and defended her dissertation at Northwestern University! I am really proud of her getting her doctorate, so I hope you don't mind if I write about it here. Her baby (my granddaughter!!) is due in about 3 and a half weeks and I am going to Chicago next weekend for her baby shower. Then she will graduate in the middle of June. We will be there for about 2 weeks in June & I am so excited. I will post a picture of her baby quilt tomorrow although I am not quite…Continue
My mom is much better and moving to assisted living this week- evidently she had a terrible reaction to a new medicine that she was only on for a week and started improving the day after she went off of it. DH and I made it through our daughter Hillary's birthday on Sunday - she would have been 29.
Now it's time to look toward the future and the birth of our granddaughter. She is due May 24. Her mom finished her dissertation, they are moving to a bigger apartment this Saturday and I…Continue
My mom's health has really deteriorated in the past 2 weeks since I went to Colorado to visit her. She finally decided to go to assisted living and my oldest sister found her a great place which she was going to be able to move into on Tuesday, but now she isn't well enough or strong enough to go.
later..yesterday she was a little better! Thanks for listening.
