Quilt With Us

Today, a heroic veteran who served in Korea and in Germany in WWII, lost a long hard battle with Alzheimers. He went on his terms, in his sleep, in his own home. My dad was 85 and always had a zest for life. He was devastated when his only sister passed quickly away from this horrid disease that robs memories of family and loved ones from those who are afflicted with it. Little did he know that he himself would fight the same monster.

He battled for years, was in and out of hospital with battles of pneumonia and losing a leg, but he continued to fight. I am thankful that my DH and I were able to make the trip from Michigan last year to help him celebrate his 85th. He leaves behind 2 daughters and a son who will miss him very much but who are thankful that his battle is now over and he can rest.

Daddy, I will not say goodbye, but see you later. You will be missed by your grandchildren, and your children. Although no time is a good time to leave this earth, you could not have picked a more memorable day than Memorial Day, a day of remembrance. I love you dad, sleep well until we meet again.

So sorry for your loss, but a good day for it to happen. Now he rests in peace. You'll always have your memories of your time spent with him and they'll never dull.
