How about Yo-Yos.  I'm not a yo-yo maker but I have seen some pretty awesome ones out there.  They even have thingies that you can buy to help you make them in different shapes.  I do believe one is a flower.

Looking forward to seeing the pictures.  Wish I had some suggestions for you.  My daughter was never a "hat girl", but my cousin's daughter loved them from the time she was a little bitty thing.  She was always so cute sporting a different hat for different occasions.

Mari, I hope you figured it out by now but if you want to - try folding a 2and1/2" strip in half lengthwise and  rolling it and taking anchor stitches as you go. You can shape it the size and way that you want. Wrap the bottom with some green ribbon to make the stem and then leaves.  I can't remember just exactly how to do it but I had seen a free tute on making cloth roses from a jelly roll. Maybe you can google that and see what you can find.

Thanks Linda ! You inspired me....Im gonna try a few different things.

My twin granddaughter is bi racial....and her sisters hair texture is more like ours, but Klayres is definately the africian american. So we needed a bigger hat for her....

Thanks for your suggestions !

How about cutting flower shapes from the fleece varying the sizes and then anchor them all together with a button or small bobble.

Wide ribbon with a gathering stitch all the way along the length on one edge, pull the thread and it makes a kind of rose.

Hope you get lots of replies because there are bound to be loads of different ideas out there.
