Quilt With Us

Since my car accident 4 years ago, I have survived because of my friends here in Arizona. Moving back home to Ohio and becoming a shut-in, I discovered that my old friends were no longer...I don't know how to put it into words. They were happy to hear from me, come on over, oh you can't drive, gee that's too bad. I've never heard from them again. That has been hurtful and I've had to try to move on to make new friends. Not easy when you are a shut-in. They were really good friends in the past...that's it...in the past. As one of my best friends told me, when I moved away she had to make new friends too. God works in mysterious ways tho. One day I was on the internet and came across QCA. And now I have found Quilt with Us. I'm making quilty friends from all over the country! How cool is that?

For Christmas I received a devotional from my Secret Sister called Whispers of Friendship. I would like to share today's with you called "Be Thankful for Friends":    Dear God, thank You for my friends. Help me not to take them for granted...Remind me often how poor my life would be without the friends You've given me. Help me to enrich their lives as they have mine. Amen.

Thank you friends for all the encouragement, thoughts, prayers, and even criticism (I may not always take it well, but probably deserve it. I get over it.). Without you I would be depressed and lonely. With you I feel alive, more creative, more energetic, and ready to move ahead with this new year. So let's get those sewing machines going! Get ready, get set, GO!!!!

Linda...I am so glad you found QWU!  I know how much it means to me so I understand what it will come to mean to you as well.  The ladies here are just so kind and supportive.  It became very quickly so much more than just sharing about our quilting interests.  I truly value the many friendships I have made here...I hope to one day meet some of these wonderful ladies.

Linda--I can only echo what others have said so well.  I'm so glad you found QWU--it has been a God-send to me.  I've found friends here who are encouraging and understanding--and I don't have to feel that I'm letting people down b/c of what I can and can't do.  I have fibromyalgia, and for the last several years I've been very limited in what I can do---my DH is disabled, and I've helped care for my dad, who died this summer, so I wind up doing what I have to do and letting the rest go.  My friends here are accepting and encouraging--my husband can't get over the fact that they are "real" friends, even though we've never met face to face.  I hope that the friendships you find here will fill some of the gap left by your friends in Ohio who have faded away.

Linda before I fell last year I was on the go a lot.  Met up with girlfriends often but now not near as much because I just don't get out like I used too!! I can't shop for long and not so steady on my feet.  I will go to Wal-Mart or somewhere that has the electric motor chairs I can ride on, but mainly it is just my husband and me!! I understand what you mean and how you feel.  Quilting is such a good filler and still being able to do for others brings joy to our hearts.  This web site has been a blessing to me as well.  I think now going on 4 years, is that right?? Wow time flys, there are good women on here, as you said BJ is a friend to all!!! She is a very gifted lady and we have all adopted her as family.  Glad you found QWU, it is truly a blessing!!

I too was in an accident many years ago...I was fortunate to keep my friends, but many were because of being a couple. Life goes in stages and each year some get further away. That's okay it, everyone's needs change. Stephanie is right, if you're fortunate to have a couple close friends you're lucky. You have found many here...enjoy!

Thank you everyone for your encouraging words and lovely comments on my quilts. Once I get back to Ohio I can post all my quilts on this site. Meanwhile, please go to my website shown in my profile.

Hugs, Linda

You know, Linda, friends are brought into your life to fill a void or assist with one project or another.  And like BJ said, once that said project is complete they go away. Some will stay forever, truly I think we are only blessed with one or two true friends, but we may have many many friends throughout our lifetime.

BJ and I are true friends online and one of these days we will meet in person, I hope!  I would like to be your friend online as well, so anytime you post that I see, I will probably respond.  Have a productive 2012 and write often!

Linda, I'm sorry that your former friends have treated you this way!  Maybe they just don't know how to handle being around someone who has limitations that were not there before.  Who knows?!  I absolutely love Quilt With Us and rarely go a day without logging in at least twice to see what my friends are up to.

Linda, thank you for the prayer and the reminder of how precious friendship is.  Take care and I too, have found great friends and comfort in this site.

Linda - I understand about the friends stuff. When we have a health or physical challenge, it changes a lot in our life.  Many of our friends, who remain healthy, don't really understand us any more or our needs. It becomes a lot of work for everyone. They knew us "before" and adjusting to the "now" is not easy for them (or us). They were great friendships for the season we had them. I'm glad God has opened new doors for you (He is great at that) and you are discovering new friends, and new ways to have friends.  Since moving here to care for my parents I have not had the opportunity to get out and meet people, to develop friendships. Like you, my new friends on my online friends... and I am so blessed by them.

Blessings to you.
