Quilt With Us

Like some of the rest of you, I too have gotten away from posting or doing much on here. Thanks Pam for the nudge.

For me I quit coming on a regular basis after my hubby retired, 6 years ago. Life dealt us some detours that were out of our control (for the most part). Started out 6 months after moving into our home I had a heart attack. No worries on that now as I am in better health than I have been for years. I have brought my chloresterol levels into normal ranges, all without medication. Also I have shed 100 pounds!

No sooner had I recovered than my Jerry was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He also had diabetes, dementia and heart problems. After cancer treatments, he had a heart valve replaced. The dementia continued to get worse, cancer came back and had spread. Treatment no longer an option for him. After caring for him 24/7 for 4 years I lost him Fabruary 21 of this year. My world is totally different without him. We had been married for almost 40 years.

The bright spot for was our precious grandson who is now a year and a half. He is a very active little guy. I take care of him during the day while his mommy works. He already likes going to quilt shops with me. Yesterday he pulled a bolt of fabric from the shelf, put it on the counter so gramma bought a yard. He showed his mom like it was a precious treasure. He went to my sewing machine, patting it trying to get me to start sewing.

I have done very little quilting over the past several years. Just not the time plus by the end of the day, just too tired. I have done some handwork, red and/or blue work. Have a couple bitter/sweet projects that were started for Jerry but just no time to finish them for him. I will finish and use them as time allows.

My kids and I have done a lot of yard work as things were neglected for a long time. It's really taking shape and looking good. Have lots of vegies coming on as well. I am tired now, but it's a "good" tired.

So, that is the highlights of the past few years. It is time for me to get back here and connect with the rest of you beyond just a few.

Take care and have a great day and 4th weekend.

Cindy I am so sorry for your loss of your dear husband.  When I met you in Seattle I had such a nice time with the both of you at dinner and visiting.  He was sweet and funny as I remember.  I am thrilled for you and your weight loss!  You must feel like a million bucks!  Congrats on the new grandson too.  I am up to seven grandchildren now.  I think that is all I am going to get.  They all say they are done!

My hubby and I bought a small place in Florida and will now become "snowbirds".  I retire this Friday and begin a new chapter in our lives now.  He retired 3 years ago when he had his major back surgery that left him with a bum leg.  We leave the day after Christmas for Florida.  I wanted to spend Christmas in NY with my girls and the grandkids or we could have left earlier.  We have both committed to a new healthier lifestyle once I retire.  Hopefully our new diets and exercise will help us both to lose a bit of weight.

I will have lots more time to get back on here and reconnect with everyone as well.  Stay well my friend...and keep in touch.

Good to hear from you.  You've had a lot on your plate in recent years.  My condolences on the loss of your husband, and my congratulations on your weight loss.  Congrats on the new grandson.  There are a lot of fun memories to be made with him.

It is nice to see a message from you Cindy.  As the old saying goes" Life is what happens when we are busy making plans."  It seems like no matter how much we try to stay on track, life does have a way of throwing us a curve occasionally.  Congratulations on losing the weight, but I'm sorry to hear you lost your beloved husband.  Your grandson sounds adorable though.

Cindy, happy to hear from you.  I admit I sometimes neglect this forum and we all used to enjoy.  I like hearing from "old friends."

I'm glad to see you back with us Cindy but sorry to hear about your hubby. It's good to hear you have family helping you with yard work.  In time you will get back into your sewing but it may take awhile.  Congratulations on losing a hundred pounds. It's nice you have your little grandson to keep a smile on your face. Little ones can be very amusing. So welcome back to QWU. You have been missed.

Cindy, so good to hear from you! I did hear you had lost your husband and I am so sorry. You really had a lot on your plate all at one time. I'm glad to hear you are feeling a "good" kind of tired lately. Take care and stop by Gifty to chat with us sometime. We miss you there.
