Quilt With Us

February 2014 And I'm going to shoot the ground hog!

Yes, he (Mr. Groundhog) did forecast 6 more weeks of winter and this week has the weatherman in a tizzy with pending snow storms, one bigger than the other. Kind of like pre-game entertainment in the weather industry. (sigh).

Any way, I have been busy finishing up those UFO's that I promised myself that I would do. So here they are making their debut!

This little Feathered Star was born in Mary K Ryan's VQF class about two year's ago. I had finished the star and wanted to put the border on it. Well the border patterns were way too small for this quilt block. So Ijust added simple borders to it just to finish it.

What happened to those borders?????

I simply had to make another Feathered Star in the size to accommodate the size of the borders. Again same pattern designer...Mary K Ryan.

Now I didn't stop there. Digging into my UFO's I found another Mary K Ryan pattern - Mariner's Compass which I also took a class on in the same VQF year. So I brought that one out and made a valiant attempt to finish it with similar pointy borders. Until I realized that border was also too small for the center block. (sigh). So I painfully cut out the border again with the correct size template ( no this one was not paper-pieced) and in excruciating pain, I pieced the entire border and then added it to the center block.

Here is the result.

Now I have 4 wall hangings to quilt. See a previous post on the first one I did in January.

My biggest issue is to determine whether I should machine or hand quilt them. Or hand them off to a long -armer for spectacular results.

Decisions, decisions.

Wishing you all a safe week in spite of the pending snow storms.

ps Pam/NY - Enjoy your trip to Florida, I'm sure it'll be a most welcomed journey!

Your blocks and borders are beautiful.  I admire anyone who does perfect points.  The only way I can master them is with paper piecing.  I steer clear of patterns with them.  Go ahead call me "chicken". lol  And when your shooting the ground hog, put another bullet in the chamber for me.  We are getting snow today also.  It's been a rough Winter across the whole country this year it seems. And speaking of ground hogs. We have had one here for several years. I seen he/she yesterday running across the lawn. Apparently they don't hibernate.  I only see one so don't know if it's the same one or not.  It's a cute little bugger.

Beautiful....looks like a lot of work!

Winter is in Kansas also....finally got some snow. High tomorrow is only supposed to be 4, wind chills at -20 to -25. Glad I can stay in and sew, even if I have had to use my little heater in the sewing room.

They are all wonderful!  Great wall hangings, or pillows, or????

We're getting winter here now ... or should I say finally?  Cold temps are hitting us (we had them a couple months ago) along with some snow.

Keep warm and safe.
