Quilt With Us

I've only been quilting for 3 years now and am totally addicted!! I've always wanted to give it a try, but thought I had to wait until my kids had grown and moved away -- wrong! I love it and have even taught a few classes at our local shop, where I work for 2 days a week to get my fabric "fix'. My first 'big girl quilt' was the Buggy Barn Crazy Goose Chase. I entered it into our local guild's quilt show and won best of category. If I wasn't hooked before I was then! It is cold here in Eastern Oregon so I have big plans to finish those unbound quilts that I've been putting off (I hate binding!) and to tackle a few of the many kits in my stash. Happy New Year and Happy Quilting! Dayleen

Hi Daleen: I am in Eastern Oregon too, at Summerville, just a little Northeast of La Grande. We do have snow here, and I am glad cause it gives me the opportunity to quilt! I love to do the bindings on my quilts since I found the binding tool bu Fons and Porter. It makes it so easy.

Just want to say hi to all the Oregon quilters. I've been to Sisters one time about 5 years ago with family. A few friends and I are trying to plan a trip there for the Sisters Outdoor show in 2009. Not sure it's going to work out but if we do get there, I'd love to meet up with any of you who might be in the area. When it gets closer, I'll need to find out where all the good quilt shops are in the surrounding area from you all. I remember it being so beautiful. I have 8 pages in my vacation scrapbook just on Oregon. I try to limit each trip to 2-4 pages but couldn't do it with Oregon. I'm in Kentucky near Louisville. I've been quilting for about 10 years and sewing since a child so will try just about anything. I'm a RN and work full time so my creative time is limited. Love to start projects, rarely finish them. I've set some 2009 goals to finish up some UFO's before beginning new ones. Hoping being part of this group will help me stay focused. Today, I'll finish up a little smocked dress for my 11 month old granddaughter then on to quilt UFO, hopefully.

I'm in Baker City. Where are you? My little icon picture is my 'Goose' the day I won my first and only ribbon. I'm a little bleary eyed this am. I stayed up till midnight last night finishing a UFO. Yay for me, but I better wake up for work!

Hi Dayleen:
I am also in Eastern Oregon...where are you located? If you have a pic of your Crazy Goose Chase quilt, would love to see it! I am beginning a quilt with flying geese using the one seam method, they go together fast, which makes it fun. I have been quilting for alittle over 6 years and LOVE IT!
Happy Quilting and Happy New Year

Hi u'll. I think we should offer Lynn free housing for vacations... We can set up those unbound quilts in front of the tv and let her go at them... Seriously, binding isn't the part that freaks me, its those damn corners! Its hard to put my name on the lable when I finish because the corners look so immature, inexperienced and inconsistent with the rest of my quilt.
I will have to check out Buggy Barn Patterns... thanks for the hint.

Aren't Buggy Barn patterns the greatest! We have had classes for several of their patterns. I love the technique because it is so forgiving even for a beginner! I've been known to cheat on my binding - sew it on the back and then use the machine with a decorative stitch to sew it on the front. But since I want to enter a few more in next year's quilt show I am making myself do it the right way. My fingers just protest under all of that hand work and it doesn't help that I like to make queen or king size quilts, no little quilts for me!

I love all the buggy barn patterns. I have quite a few. I just made a Christmas tree skirt form one of my patterns. I shared the buggy barn crazy pattern with my friends at quilting class and they are all hooked. Its something different. When I seen the words I hate binding. I thought to myself, send me all your unbound quilts. I love to sew on binding. I just sit in fornt of the t.v and relax and sew. Happy New Year
