After four days of running up and down stairs, photographing the entire Alpena Recreational Center AND all of teh special events connected to the Great Lakes Lighthouse Festival that was held Oct. 7-10th, I can say that I'm pooped, exhausted and glad of it!!
I was not only the official photographer there this year, but a first time vendor. By first time I mean first time "anywhere"! It was my first show and although I didn't sell a lot, I did manage to bring in a few hundred which made me happy. I sold a lot of my photographs and some of them had nothing to do with lighthouses! My friend, Squirrel, had some quilts she tried to sell, but wasn't there long enough to get a bite, there were a few nibbles but nothing solid.
The highlight of the Festival was the Lightkeepers dinner in which they raised $500 in scholarship funds to see one of the men attend the dinner in a squaredancers dress. During the dinner, we raised another $515 (for total of $1,015) to shave his head! I even took part in that and it was so much fun. He walked around the Festival on Sunday showing his now bare head and getting even MORE donations for him being a good sport.
I will be returning there next year with some quilty items to sell as I saw what was going and what didn't work. My photographs will be there as well AND I will be their photographer again next year! From contacts made there, I may even have a photography gig for the U.S. Coastguard in Lansing, Michigan sometime next year. We shall see!!
I know it's not a quilty thread, but it is just to let you know what I've been up to besides being a full time college student!
