Quilt With Us

Hi all!  Hope you didn't fall down when you saw a post from me. Yes, it has been a while.

This has been a year of change.  In the summer we learned that the lodges (where we work) were going up for sale, either all together, which would mean a business deal, or individually for personal use.  That left us a bit up in the air. With some other things that have gone on we felt it was time for a change for us.  We did a lot of praying and talking and both felt we were being led to a different service.  So... the first week of November was our last with the Retreat.  We then took a week off and headed to the Oregon Coast for an awesome 3 nights on the beach. The weather could not have been more perfect! When we came back we started serving at the Flying H Youth Ranch.  The house we've lived in these 4+ years is on the Ranch property and with the changes in the Retreat it is now a Ranch house. That means, at least for now, we do not have to move. Hooray hooray.  We are serving as hopefully soon to be full time volunteers.... which qualifies us for the house... unless they get more full time staff than they have houses for. if/when that occurs we'd have to move.  Thankfully we'd have 9-12 months notice.  We are praying we can stay here for many years. Our heart is really with this ministry.

The Ranch is for troubled boys/young men ages 14-18. They come for about 18 months (some stay longer) and get schooling, mentoring, and the gospel. Currently we have 13 here, with two more coming in January. I'm working in the office and DH is doing maintenance and supervising/leading work crews a couple days a week.

As nice as it would be to be full time, we just don't have that kind of energy. It would mean DH would have to put in 40 hours/weekly and do some overnight monitoring of the boys. He's pushing 70 and just does not have that kind of energy.

We both love living here and now working for this awesome ministry. All the workers are missionaries, getting their own support. This helps keep the cost to the families who send their sons here to a much lower rate as they are not paying for the salaries on top of the lodging, etc that their fees cover. I have more free time than I've had since we moved here... so hopefully I can get more sewing/quilting done now.

I moved my sewing room from upstairs to the room on the main level where my office was. I LOVE it! It is a smaller space, but everything I wanted/needed in it fits and not overly crowded. I'll add some pics of it so you can see it.

I did get a quilt for Miss Bailey made. She is 7 now (8 in February) and tall... wearing size 14 now! I also made some aprons for Christmas gifts and potholders out of denim jeans, using the pockets of the jeans. I've done a few art pieces too.

I helped lead the making of our women's club raffle quilt for 2018. That was a big project, but it was nice as about 6 of us got together throughout the year to do different steps on it. It is now ready to be quilted. It is a cabin in the woods style quilt.

I won't promise how often I'll be on here, but I will try to be a bit more frequent.  In the meantime, I hope you have a wonderful and blessed Christmas.

Okay... here are some pics. Enjoy

This was for a swap

Our son's car. I made it into a pillow. Yes, it is that color!

Good to hear from you. We missed you.!  Bailey is the same age as my grand daughter Victoria.

Hope you able to stay where you are and enjoy yourselves. Your sewing room looks great!

How wonderful to hear from you! It's a Christmas gift for sure. I'm glad you are able to stay there and enjoy your new sewing room while doing such important work.

I can't believe Bailey is coming up on 8. How time flies!

Merry Christmas!

So glad to see your post, BJ!  Sounds like this will be a good change and that things are coming together nicely.  Merry Christmas!

Your sewing room looks perfect! I remembered Miss Bailey was just three months older than our Daphne. They grow up so fast. I’m glad things seem to be working out for you, at least for now.

BJ...Sure loved seeing this post from you telling us how you are doing!!! So glad that you'll be able to stay in your home, hopefully for a long time. The Ranch is a wonderful thing for the troubled boys and I'm sure that it really helps them become productive citizens later in life.

I love Adam's pillow and I'm sure he will too. Miss Bailey sure has grown and it's good to hear about her. I love your sewing room and it's set so nice to do your projects.

Wishing you a Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year!!!!  Hugs to you.

Merry Christmas to you and your husband BJ. Your life sounds busy but rewarding. I too hope you can stay there to help these young people who need you. I love your sewing space. It's hard to believe Miss Bailey is almost 8. They grow up way to fast. I love the car pillow and your thread painting picture.  Glad you posted.  You have been missed.

It was so nice to see a post from you BJ.  I hope you & your husband will be able to stay there for many years to come.  It is so sad that kids need to have a place like that to live in, but it is also good that there are people who are able to help guide them in how to make better decisions in life.  I love your sewing room.  Have a very Merry Christmas.

Yes I was surprised to see your post! Pleasantly surprised! Welcome back. Life sure keeps us hopping! You and your hubby have to be earth angels to do the ministry that you do. I hope that you are able to stay there for many years and have a positive influence on these young men.

Your sewing room is very nice. I'm sure having it on the lower level is easier than going up stairs. love the car pillow...you are such an artist...

Have a wonderful Christmas and keep us posted on how you're doing!
