Quilt With Us

This does make sense. See, my goal in life is to stay ahead of Walmart (at least as far as Holidays go) and I heard that our local Walmart received 2 tractor trailer loads of Thanksgiving stuff already. Labor day... never heard of it I guess and Halloween (only the best holiday of all ... no pressure on this one just buy candy its always the right gift) is going to get tucked in there somewhere I guess. But in order to stay ahead Merry Christmas. Now when you see Easter greetings at Thanksgiving and Mother's Day at Christmas you'll understand. Maybe......

At our Walmart it is Halloween with Christmas around the corner. BUT Dollar Tree is already there. Christmas stuff one isle from the school supplies. Go figure.

Christmas fabric in July is necessary if we're going to get any projects done. We can't wait until November for that ;-)

I was in a nearby Hobby Lobby store last week and they already had their Christmas trees up, and had already filled aisles full of Christmas items and decorations. It seems to get earlier each year. I can remember each holiday going by on it's own as a child. Summer would be over and school would start, and it seemed forever until Halloween came. Then you waited for Thanksgiving, excited for the turkey! Then, and only then, did you start thinking about Christmas. And the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas were always so fun, and filled with holiday activities from decorating and parties to shopping and baking. I wait until the day after Thanksgiving to start decorating for the holidays, and by the time Christmas actually arrives, I feel beat to death by it all!

This commercialism buy - buy is where this has landed people in trouble. As you say it really takes the whole meaning out of Christmas. I for one think giving from the heart is the best. I'm alway pleased to receive something from someone that has taken the time to make the gift. I think the gift group is an excellent thing to work on for Christmas. I even stop looking at the flyers as it only make you buy things you don't really need and also what a waste of all the trees we are trying to save for our g.children. I love the Christmas fabrics on line and as you say if they are available early we can work on them and tuck the gifts away.......

I do not like to shop either, just groceries and such. do alot of online shopping as there are so many fabric stores on line, and magazines loaded with fabrics you can look at home and take your time, find colors to match, bargain prices, etc... also can take your time, sleep on it in case you change your mind. so no last minute purchases this way...
as for shipments of holidays early, I suppose it is the economy thing, maybe hoping we will buy earlier and then there is more time and selection this way..
I for one like the idea of early holiday fabrics as gives me time for ideas, etc before the big holiday, I do detest Christmas in July because who thinks of wintertime in the middle of the summer when that is relaxation time as just got winter blues behind us, over the cabin fever, major holidays over and need time to recooperate before thinking about it all over again...

Remember when Christmas didnt happen till thanksgiving was over, I do and then the holiday movies and cartoons took you right in to Christmas. How things have changed. It has taken all the fun out of it and the retailers wonder what has happened to them. I say we boycott and not give into there ruining our holidays. Make our own gifts and give from the heart. I dont know about everyone else but I hate to shop anymore I put off going to the store like the plaque. I only go when I have to.

Talk about commercialism---it is all about the dollar and in the process the real meaning is lost---I can remember when nothing was out for Christmas until the Friday after Thanksgiving--how did we survive and make it to the holiday on time---and heaven forbid the grocery stores andd shopping stores were CLOSED on Sundays!!!!! Maybe we should go back to that so families could get to "know" each other~~~~~~

They would sell more if they waited until Dec 1...when you give people time to think about it...they often times talk themselves out of it. It will be a tight market this holiday...unfortunately. Great buys in Jan.!
