Quilt With Us

Aloha from beautiful Honolulu, Hawaii! Yuppers, that's what I said, Hawaii!! We are here for 13 days - 10 on Ohau and 3 on Hilo. While this may be paradise, beautiful white, black, pink sandy beaches, turquoise blue and emerald green waters with cotton candy whispy clouds, it is extremely expensive here. For example a simple drink like pina colatta is $15 or try a bowl of oatmeal for $10! So we go looking for the least expensive places to eat and most of the things we like to do are free.

While we are here we will be touring the Arizona Memorial, going on a dinner cruise at sunset on a catamaran and going on a whale watch lunch cruise. I will be taking lots and lots of pictures as ideas for thread painting and quilt art are bountiful here.

Looking out off our balcony at the J.W. Marriott there is a beautiful "Disney Hotel" resort across from us whose outer structure looks like the old Hawaii dugout canoes and there are engravings on the sides of the building that tell, in picture story form, the history of the forming of the Islands. It is similar to the story of some Native American tribes that talk about the Native peoples living on the back of turtle.

Gotta run, adventure is calling, but just needed to check in and share the experience.

Aloha and Mahalo!

So glad you are enjoying yourselves! I'd vote for the warm pool too. LOL Looking forward to your pictures!

I would like to go to Hawaii some day.  It sounds like a great place for a holiday.

Want to try 'cheap' eats? Go to the markets - fruits, veggies and ready-to-eat meals are available for less than a dinner at a restaurant.

We have been having a wonderful time. Today went for a swim in the Pacific, or at least my hubby did. I walked out into the water but to me it was too cold! The wind really made it feel even colder so we went to the pool instead. Then took a long walk, have been up since 6 a.m. Hawaii time but was more like 11 a.m. Michigan time. We had already had breakfast, lunch, swimming and a long walk by noon! Even had a rain shower which felt more like misters.

ahhhhhh, I remember doing those things and it's WONDERFUL.  We flew into Honolulu and stayed a week and then spent a week each on Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island.  I hated to come home. It's truly paradise.  I found the prices on the other Islands not as expensive as Oahu.  I would love to go again.

Do you know how many people are envious of you right now?  Enjoy!  Sounds like the trip of a lifetime to me.  Someday, some day.

A must see, is the Polynisian (sp) Culture Center. Have been there twice and so interesting. Soak up all the warm sunshine to have before you go back home. l'm glad that you are having a great time and enjoying a much needed vacation. Makes me want to go back, especially, since it's snowing this morning in Woodinville, northeast of Seattle. Over an 1" so far and we haven't had hardly any snow this year and it's now March 22nd. Go figure.
