I finished this baby quilt on New Year’s Day, so I’m hoping it’s a good omen for quilts to come. I purchased this vintage top at a white elephant sale last summer for $4. What a buy! It was long and skinny and needed some pep. After taking it apart and handwashing the embroidered blocks, I saw, very faintly, some background printing on block 9. Turns out that the maker used bleached flour sacks from the Great American Pacific Tea Company (otherwise know as the A & P) for her fabric. I saved the plain blocks for future embroidery and pieced the cross stitch blocks into a more traditional baby quilt size. It’s machine pieced and hand quilted, about 38”square.

Thanks! This was a fun one to work on. I’ve had good luck collecting vintage pieces in need of finishing over the last few years.
Wow, what an awesome job you did on this quilt. I commend you for taking it apart and doing all the work that you did on it. Some little person will love it.
What a beautiful quilt you made from those blocks. You never know what treasures you can find at those White elephant sales.
you sure resurrected it beautifully!
It turned out wonderfully. What a wonderful way to save those vintage blocks.
