Quilt With Us

Off I drove the other day,
To a world unknown without cell phones or Blu-ray-
To meet other quilters like myself,
who also store UFOs and fabrics on their closet shelf.

I found them there- stitching away,
Quite content, if I dare say.
To sit and sew without a care,
Beautiful blocks into quilts to share.

They welcomed me in- stranger and all,
And showed me to my room "just down the hall".
Although too much sleeping was not really done,
Due to the amount of just too much fun!

We quilted and chatted and became fast friends, too!
It was bad though, when we lost one to the flu-
But, by Saturday she was back!
She was ready to go!
Which was a good thing, since she was
"running the show"!

Saturday night we enjoyed a big Pattern Swap!
Well, this was after of course a morning "shop hop".
A few of us left and drove through the woods,
In search of a couple of places a gal knew
Who said a great shop was just "over the hill"
And turned out to be...well,
A charge to call the owner on the driver's iphone bill.

But, we made it back with new fabrics to cut,
And a story to tell, so funny it would split your gut-
Because only true quilters understand our jokes and fun,
And are willing to be the subject now and then
"of the pun".

So, it's back "to the grindstone" of our everyday life,
Of punching time clocks and stress and strife.
With nothing but our memories and stories to share,
From a great little weekend we spent "somewhere"...

But, just down the road with a turn here and there,
You'll find us again, someday soon without a care.
Surrounded by gals who we'll love till the end.
Because that's how it works my dear quilting friends...

Thanks to all of you Lydia, Jody and Jenn...
And all of the others who helped plan now and then.
It was a great time, and a marvelous retreat-
We loved it all-so sit down and put up your feet!
Relax and get ready because we're all coming back!
And it's just a few months before we'll have to pack!

Looks like ya'll had a grand old time.  I would love to have been there but it is a bit far for me.  The poem was great and now it is time to get back to Roseville, huh?

Nice post Rhonda. I loved your poem. It looks like you were all having a grand ole time. Just the thought of a weekend without phones and other distractions sounds yummy to me.

Good job! My Vintage Stitchers group is planning a retreat in May. Wonder if I can come up with a poem! Love the photo!
