I have to make about 30 cupcakes tomorrow and since I have boys, we never did get into cupcakes.  (they're pie men)  Anyway,  I have two questions.  Can I bake 12 cupcakes and let the extra batter sit while the first batch is baking and then use tthat batter, say 20 minutes later for another 12?  Or should I go out and get another cupcake tin?.   Okay, that was two questions but I have one more since that was really a 1A and 1B .  Has anyone flavored buttercream frosting?  I'm going to color it pink/red but thought a mint or peppermint flavoring would be good with a choc cupcake.  Help!        I'm going to shot the lady that gave me this job.  I'd rather make a gazillion pies than these darn 30 cupcakes.

Guess what DGD & I did today - cupcakes, chocolate fudge flavor with chocolate fudge frosting.  Guess who now has a toothache - I should not have shown DGD how to lick the darn spatula.

so how did the cupcakes turn out?  If were me, I would have gone to my local Safeway, Albertson, got cupcakes from them, and put them on the plate.  Although I love to bake cupcakes!  :)

I make cupcakes by the hundreds and my batter sits fine waiting for its turn. Something I do is cut a wee hole in them and fill them with pudding . Then put the top back on. Put a little dab of icing and then a choc. heart!

And be sure not to fill the tins to the top - they will overflow and look funny and you will have to cut them off around the edges, lol!

Sounds like you got your answers!  Good to know about the batter. I've always had enough tins, so that never was an issue, but good to know.  Color and flavor your frosting to your delight!  Of course, you could make them yukky and then you wouldn't have to worry about being asked to make them again. I'm just saying.... LOL

Oh Debbie, assign me cupcakes any day.  Waiting for the pan will be fine, and flavoring the frosting will work too.  I remember my sister trying to make pie dough and getting so frustrated that she threw the dough at the wall!!!

Hummm Sounds like snack time at the LQS meeting tomorrow.  I've made many cupcakes when DD was in school.  The extra batter sat and waited for it's turn in the oven and everything turned out fine.

Yes & Yes.  Go for it.  If you are not using cupcake paper liners,  be sure to lubricate the muffin cups before pouring in the cake batter and you are good to go.

Yes to both your questions.  I'm not exactly a pie person, but when the mood comes I do pie crust from scratch.  Cupcakes - there's always the package, and Betty Crocker has 'Fun da middle' where you put the frosting inside the cake.
