Quilt With Us

A couple of weekends ago, my sister and I drove the Quilt Trail through Yancey County, NC and up into Johnson City, Tn. We also visited a few quilt shops where I took pictures of quilts hanging in their stores. Hope you enjoy the pics and especially the quilt squares on barns and buildings.

I've never heard of that either. What a fun thing to do.

Eleanor Burns has a book called "Quilt in a Day Quilt Blocks on American Barns" In the back it lists, several web sites, one is 'www.countrybarnquilttrail.com"; another is "www.americanquiltbarns. com" The introduction tells about how these "barn quilts" originated. There are over 1,000 quilt squares on barns in Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, W. Virginia, Iowa, N. Carolina,Wisconsin, Indiana, and New York. None in Texas, yet. I may have to get DH to build a barn so I can put a quilt square on it!

It sure did make good memories for you both. I knew there were a lot of quilt stores b ut not nearly
the number there is. The outdoor paintings are certainly remarkable. Thanks for showing us the

It was a great road trip. My sister and I live so far away from each other and don't get to visit very often, and we both have a common love for quilting. So, this visit will always be a very special memory for me. Most of the quilt blocks we saw were in town. We didn't venture out into the rural countryside to see the quilt barns because we just didn't have the time. Hopefully, will do that on another trip.

I'd never heard of it either - guess we're West Coast gals, BJ! What a fun trip - the outside blocks are beautiful.
