Looking to buy one, & am wondering, how necessary is a 4th rail? Looking at the Gracie Mini Pinn, & it does not have one, so am wondering if I really need one, & would appreciate some input! Also think this one is a better price than the Gracie II. Any info would be appreciate, & ASAP, hubby wants to order one soon!

Lynda, about this time last year, I got a Viking Sapphire 830, & it has a 10in bed, so that is what I will be using. Still getting to know it & haven't actually quilted on it, so this will be a new adventure for me. I bought it with the thought of buying a quilt frame, down the road. I can't afford a longarm & don't have room for a big setup, so I think this one will work just fine for me. This Viking machine is alot bigger than my other machine, a Janome Memory Craft 3000 I have had for quite some time, so I think it will work out great with this frame... I got an email saying it should be delivered on Wed!

Congrats on ordering, Nancy, and happy belated birthday! I'm sorry I wasn't around yesterday.

What machine are you going to use with the frame? I've been investigating this too, and also sit down long arms. I can't decide which will be better for me so I'm just going to have to go somewhere and try them out. When will yours arrive?

I never use the fourth rail. The batting doesn't seem to unroll freely from it so I just leave the batting hanging down. If you buy batting by the roll then its a great space to store it though!!!!

I have the grace next generation with the 4th rail. It is still pretty new to me, but I find that I just let the batting hang and don't wind it up unless it hangs down too far and I start stepping on it. My daughter has the grace pro with rail and doesn't use hers much either.

I have a Gracie II and made my own 4th rail from PVC pipe and closet rod ends. Works real well and keeps the batting off the floor and no stepping on it either.

I don't know anything about the machine quilting frames from Grace Frames, but I have a Z44 and it's so well made and sturdy. I think you'll find their frames are a good choice. I'm sure you'll get lots of feedback on this one.
