I think I've found a new "specialty" -- Wedding Dress Quilts.  My mother gave me her 62 year old wedding dress and I made a quilt out of the satin, lace and buttons (see the pictures below).  I'm so happy with the result, and she was thrilled!!  It's a whole cloth quilt, with lace added, and is about 40" square.  I put their wedding picture and invitation on the back.

Seems like an interesting idea for specialty quilts -- I already have 2 other people who would like their wedding dresses made into quilts.

Why keep that old wedding dress in the closet when you can have a quilt or wall hanging that will remind you of your wedding!

I am really impressed--what a beautiful idea and quilt!  My wedding dress is in the box from the cleaners--I dont' think I've seen it since my wedding, such a waste!  DD plans to use my veil when she marries, but my dress would swallow her whole, besides being pretty dated.  The wedding picture and invitation on the back are the perfect finish touches.

Gorgeous quilt and a great idea.  Personally, I would go snow blind working on that, you did a fantastic job!  Grandmother's dress made into a baptismal quilt for a baby would be very special too.

It really depends on the fabric the dress is made of.  Mother's was satin underneath, so I used the satin for a whole cloth quilt, drew the design on it and quilted.  Some fabrics need stabilizer (the satin did).  Then I put the lace in certain areas.

Be sure to do a trial piece first - to see how the fabric quilts and to get the tension right,

The next one I'm doing is a thin chiffon like fabric with lace -- now sure how I will do that one!

Do you mind sharing some hints with me on how you made this.  I took my wedding gown out of storage back when the Prince William and Katy got married because I wanted to do something like this with my gown.  It is beautiful and I love it!
