Quilt With Us

What in the world happened to the spring? Not real sure we had one down here in northwest Florida.  The month of June came in with a heat wave and has never let up.  So HOT and HUMID!!!!  So basically I'm stuck staying inside in the A/C.  So thankful for air conditioning.  If I could meet the person who invented A/C, I would have to do something really special for them.  Maybe make them one of Paula Deen's Banana Split Icecream Cakes.  So yummmmmm!  Anyway, I was going to make a quilt this summer, a project that my sister and I were both going to do.  She lives in Asheville, NC.  Needless to say, as always, I get so sidetracked on different projects.  The quilt is still unfinished, just got three blocks done.  Had to make a King Charlemagne costume for my grandson, Matt, who needed it for a report in history class.  Then my oldest granddaughter, Victoria, decided she wanted me to make her an authentic Civil war ballgown with pantaloons.  She is going to a week of Civil War activities in Chattanooga, TN which ends with a ball on a Friday night.  So the ballgown is solid white satin taffeta with beading.  When she gets here to do her fitting, I will take some pics and post for you.  She has gorgeous auburn hair and peach skin and I know will be the belle of the ball as they say.

Hope all of you are doing well and getting some quilting projects done.  It has been a really sad weather year and my heart goes out to all those families who lost loved ones as well as their homes.  We are not looking forward to hurricane season.  Living here on the gulf coast, we know there is always the possibility of another one hitting.  About six years ago, when one hit, we lost six trees in our yard and the roof cap off of our house, but at least none of the trees hit the house.  We have been blessed.

It's about time to start the Christmas in July projects.  Kind of looking forward to getting some new ideas to start working on.  So I guess it's time for me to start my day.  Sending you all wishes for a blessed summer.

Hi Sheila in Jax, We really don't have any great quilt shops around here.  We did have a shop over in Pensacola but it closed down a few years ago.  There is a rather new shop that is getting some momentum and that is Martelli's.  Go online or FB and check it out.  They have just signed a contract to sell some of their wares with HSN.  There is a great quilt shop in Panama City, FL called Quilting By the Bay.  Have been there several times and love it.

You sound kinda like me; I'm as sidetracked as you can get.  But at least you are getting something done!  Even tho I don't use it often (NY) I too am grateful for my A/C.  It's only downstairs and my sewing room is upstairs, so when I need to I carry everything down & work there.  Good exercise?

I know what you mean about spring.  It has been so hot and humid here in Georgia so far this year and to think that summer officially started only a couple of days ago.  I am also very thankful for central A/C.  I will spend the next couple of months in my craft room finishing some of my UFO's.  It's way too hot out there.  Hope you all have a great summer.

Barbara from Milton.......Well I'm Sheila from Jacksonville and I know how you feel it is HOT here. And I've been praying for weeks now for a tropical storm to come and help with all the fires. So far nothing and we are sitting here surrounded with smoke. I have several co-workers who live in your area of the state they are in Penscaola and Gulf Breeze. So tell me are there any great quilt shops over there? The best one around here is in St Augustine. There are a few smaller ones but nothing like the one in St Augustine.
