Hi - Sorry it took me so long to get the quilt "guru" to look at your pattern! This is about as good as we could come up with - let me know what you think:

1. Bear Paw on Point
2. 4 Triangle (0r 1/2 plus) log cabin pieces for corners
3. Add two borders

Hope this is somewhat of a help!

Thanks for the recommendation for the movie "Up". We have been wanting to see it and it sounds like we need to see it for sure.

Schatze, the Pennsylvania Sunburst Quilt reminds me of all the beautiful colors that we saw in the fall when we drove from Pittsburgh to Johnstown. I found the patter on the internet just after I retired and knew I had to make it. It was fun because there were some techniques that I hadn't tried yet. I had the quilt professionally custom quilted by a local long arm and it cost me a pretty penny but was worth every cent. All my nieces and nephews have asked that we leave it to them in our Will. My step-daughter will get that one for sure.

Thanks, Schatze. My Mom really does enjoy it. She is in a nursing home in the end stages of Parkinsons Disease. I get up to Chicago to see her every month or so. Not sure how much longer we will have her. But to see her exist the way she is now is very difficult.

Thanks for the compliment on the Valentines Day quilt.

No pattern, I saw a picture and thought I could make it. It is just half square triangles and squares. I have made it in different sizes, used 3 inch squares for a baby quilt in blue and yellow. I think you can see it on the pictures of my quilting frame on my home page.

If you sketch/color it out on graph paper, you will know how many/what combinations of half square triangles to make. It looks a lot more difficult than it really is.

Would love to know if you try it!

Hello! I just love the picture you have for your "identification" (I forgot what they call it! ) Is it a pattern you made?

Good morning! Apparently there was a glitch in the system yesterday - I did notify CT and Karen took care of it - everything is back to normal today! It seems everyone lost their "comment wall" - I could go to others and see theirs but mine were gone! Same with others - all fixed now!!

The "Continuing Education" group seem to have disappeared!! What happened? In addition, when I click on your blog, t says "YIKES!"

Hi Schatze! Thank you for all your nice comments on my pictures. My kitties are also all rescues, (I think as of last month I may have 5 instead of 4! But shhh, don't tell my DH! ) LOL! My neighbor moved out (foreclosure) and left a dog and a cat behind until she could find a place for them, between all of us neighbors we are taking care of them, but the cat seems to have made my front porch her new home! Which isn't making my kitties too happy! Gabriel, my alpha-male, as I call him, was a rescue I picked up off the side of the road, half-dead and weighing less than a pound, the vet told me he probably wouldn't survive! As you can tell by his picture, he survived and thrived! Whenever I bring him for a checkup or shots, the vet can't believe it's the same cat!

I liked your suggestion about the landscape quilt from the Carolina snow picture. I haven't tried one of those yet but I've been wanting to, you're right, that picture would make a good one. I think I just added that to my list! (you probably understand how long that list is?) If I get a chance to start it anytime soon I'll let you know! Thanks for adding me to your friends list! Glad you got a chuckle off of my post! My friends often tell me I say the funniest things, although sometimes it's not intentional!

Schatze, there is still a misconception among many people that all you have to do is change 3 things about an existing design and it becomes your own. Not true! It is considered a derivative of the original design and is not legally copyrightable. The thing that bothers me the most in the situation I was referred to is I believe the editors of these magazines have an obligation to make sure they are not giving design credit to someone who is not the original designer. I realize some of these designs are older than the editors are, but it is pretty easy to research public domain blocks. Like in the case of the jewel box quilt I was referring to, ironically the company that owns that magazine also publishes books and they had published the same pattern in one of their own books several yrs before. When you think about it, how many designers can there be of 9 patch & log cabin quilts?! A couple of yrs ago I decided it was way past time to go through all of my quilt mags I had been hoarding over the yrs, tear out the patterns I thought I might make one day & toss the rest. I really felt ripped off after a while when I realized just how many 9 patch, log cabin & pineapple patterns appear time after time again in these mags. I realize that they are trying to appeal to the beginning quilter, but come on, there must be other beginner level patterns they can use. And every one of them said "designed by ____". So after realizing that I now only subscribe to Fons & Porters Love of Quilting mag as they at least seem to attempt to publish new things.

Hi Schatze, thanks for commenting on my post. It was just a nice afternoon. I'm trying to treasure the moments because he'll be ready to fly the nest soon. Though we try to live at a slower pace than the rest of the world, the days just seem to slip by at warp speed. My daughter is home from college for the summer and we're having fun, too.

Hi Schatze, I mainly do my own thing now but I used to buy a lot of patterns and books when I was a beginner. I still refer back to some of them for inspiration, but rarely do I make anything from those patterns any more. Now the only time I buy a pattern or book is when it is truly that person's design and not just another quilt made of public domain blocks & in a traditional layout that has been around since our grandmother's were girls. It bugs me to no end to see someone be given designer credit for making a quilt that has been around for eons only because they happened to use current fabrics! For instance, a few yrs ago I saw a quilt in a national quilt mag that said "designed by ____". Well it was a jewel box quilt & I had one on my guest bed that I had made at least 8 yrs before. I wrote to the magazine about it, but never heard back. It would have been much more accurate to have said "created by _________"
