Last word on those darn turtles

Posted on April 20, 2016 at 7:24am 4 Comments

Finally got that paper-pieced turtle quilt set off to my sister in law.  She loved it, thought it was so cute.  I really wish I could post a photo, I've tried everything I can think of.  My Vivitar digital camera software just isn't going to cooperate.  Anyway, if any of you have gone to Java House quilts and seen the original pattern, you'll have a pretty good idea what it looks like.  Only real difference is the fact that I used a whole strip of a cute cartoon turtle print for the outer…

How, when I'm being so careful, can it NOT come out right?

Posted on April 8, 2016 at 7:22pm 10 Comments

I recently started a new project, or rather picked up one that had been hanging fire for some time.  My brother used to like to buy me fabric; trouble is, he liked the large-scale scenic prints.  One day he came home with a large scale scenic of pheasants around old farmyards.  I got a notion, and used the "Hunter's Star" block in red and white, and blue and white, fussy cutting the pheasants fabric for setting blocks.  Somehow I managed to cut twice as many pheasants as I needed, and the…

Finally! Finishing those darn turtles.

Well, I should be able to see the last of those darn paper-pieced turtles by the end of this week.  I got all (I hope!) of the machine quilting--in the ditch, no less, finished up Sunday, and got the binding cut and sewn onto the front side yesterday.  Now all that's left is to whip-stitch it down on the back.  I may be able to get my friend to post a photo on the website--cross your fingers.  My computer repair person tells me the problem I'm having with posting photos is the software that…

Those darn paper-pieced turtles!

Posted on January 23, 2016 at 4:05pm 8 Comments

Those darn paper-pieced turtles have almost driven me to banging my head against the wall.  After I finally got them all pieced, I started setting the blocks together, but wound up setting the first four turtles with their heads pointing into the center of the circle.  Then the remaining two turtle blocks would NOT match up the way they were supposed to.  So I had to rip them all apart and start over.  What made this even worse is that the blocks were oversized to the setting blocks and had…

Sandy, thank you for asking. He has now been diagnosed with a form of skin cancer that hopefully can be kept in check with the treatments he is receiving for the bladder cancer. He recently spent some time in the hospital with a severe infection, so treatments postponed until that is cleared up. Our days revolve around medical appointments. If it is not one thing it is another. I have had very little time to do any quilting and my hand piecing project is at a stage where it is no longer portable.

Sandy, you asked about my husband. He has now officially been diagnosed with Stage 4 bladder cancer. Due to multiple other health issues, he will be stating immunotherapy next week. Your thoughts and prayers are appreciated.

I grew up in Richfield, Minnesota (out near the airport), then bought a house in Albertville (on the western edge of Hennepin County) and currently in Buffalo, Minnesota.  I'm thinking of moving to Rochester, Minnesota.

I'm doing needle tatting and just finished a doily with white sparkling yarn.  Keeps my hands busy in the evening while my body relaxes from the vigorous workouts of the day.

I'm amused about the bat issue you had. I had a few bats over the years up at the house so I can relate to the chaos of getting them out.  The one I had here I think came in a box with a bunch of jackets I had to put patches on for the fire dept.  They bat was more then likely in that box that came from a warmer State as the bats here would be hibernating.  He didn't fly around the room when I put the light on so I think he crawled off and died.  I haven't seen him since that night.  With no bugs to eat he couldn't survive unless he is hibernating here some place.  I will know when warm weather comes round if he appears again.
