About Me
Hello everyone,

I just joined the group yesterday and am really excited to get to know all of you. My name is Yanic, I'm from St-Redempteur, a small town just outside of Quebec City , Canada . I'm a mom of 2 beautiful children (my daughter is 3 and my newest little boy is 11 weeks) and I have fallen heads-over-heel in love with quilting. I have my mother-in-law to thank for this. She is an amazing quilter (as are most of the women in her family) and I feel blessed she's chosen to pass it along to me.

I started quilting about a year ago and I've been pretty much free styling ever since. Lately, I've been getting the urge to have more structure and technique infused to my eclectic style. I have a very "modern" and "whimsical" taste in my choices of fabrics (to quote others that have seen my work) and have only recently started to look at patterns and blocks. I'm finding the history beh ind the art fascinating and I'm just finding so much amazing talent everywhere I look.

One of my objectives in joining this group is to participate in some swaps in order to experience first hand the work of others. Seeing pictures is great, but to actually have the fabric between your hands, to run the seems with your fingers, that is the stuff that makes a person learn and appreciate the love and passion behind every piece created.

Also, I've recently purchased the book " The Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt: 55 Letters and the 111 Blocks they Inspired" and have set a goal for myself to do all 111 blocks during this maternity leave (which will end on October 14, 2014). That means 2 blocks a week and I'm hoping to post my pictures here and get feedback from all of you as the year progresses.

Thank you so much for letting me join you guys during my journey into quilting. I'm looking forward to walking this road with you.

He did a nice job! Me and my husband built my sewing table too....with a plain wooden door and 2x4 legs with 1x3's around the edges...works good for me with plenty of cutting space! <3

Oh I love the palette wood stuff I am finding on Pintrest! We have a LOT of pallets at the farm so I definitely want to try some of them.

Thank you for the compliments! I have been quilting for maybe 12 years or so. I started with big and easy pieces and worked my way up to the harder stuff.....this year is the first time I have tried applique. I can't say I am addicted but the owls are cute. My younger daughter really likes them so I thought I would give it a go for her! ;o)

Hi Yanic! Welcome to the group and Quilt With Us! Swapping is a lot of fun. I have participated in many swaps and it's always neat to see the different fabrics and combinations we dream up! From what I see of your photos, you do a great job on your projects....they all look awsome! Scrappy can be such fun. I look forward to getting to know you.

Welcome Quilter Friend!

Just wanted to pop in to say “hello” and introduce myself. I’m Linda Hubalek, fellow quilter and author from Kansas. Books about pioneer women are my specialty, with a cooking or a quilting theme mixed into each historical fiction series.

My Trail of Thread historical fiction book series, written in the form of letters sent back home, describes my ancestors’ wagon trail journey and homesteading in Kansas. Each book mentions twelve old-time quilt patterns, and I put drawings of them in the back of the books.

And my new book The Kansas Quilter will be out this fall. It’s about my great grandmother Kizzie Pieratt and the many quilts she made.

So if you like to read—besides quilting—please enjoy my blog and book excerpts on my website. Besides printed as paperbacks, my ten books are also available for your Kindle or Nook.

I have about a dozen quilts made by my great grandmother, (that we used all the time when I was a kid) so I’m into antique quilts and patterns. What kind of quilts and patterns do you like to work with?

Happy quilting and reading!

Linda Hubalek
